Re: Dr. Songfight (Art Bomb Reviews)

HEY! I see Russian folk dancers. Another of several instrumentals in this fight; good, high-spirited work, da. Loosely inspired by Falla's Ritual Fire Dance? The inspiration, such as it was, was to try to do an early rock-n-roll instrumental, like "Wipeout" or something by Link Wray, but ...

Re: Dr. Songfight (Art Bomb Reviews)

I think sometimes instrumentals need to have their vision explained. The "vision" is that the sound clips before and after the music are clips from the Honeymooners, with Jackie Gleason and *Art* Carney. There were a lot more such soundbites during the music, but I ended up mixing them ou...

It's just mic'd very very close to the amp speaker. I only use DI for bass anymore.

My own reviews coming soon.

Re: Light the Cannon (Come and Take It reviews)

Would you believe the guitar tone on the Flvxxvm Florvm track is an American Standard Strat with single coil pickups. The guitar is tuned down a whole step and the entire mix is also slightly slowed down, so it sounds much fatter than you'd think that guitar could. Edit: also an eq pedal boosting th...

Come and Take It

I can hear you coming, I can tell you're on the way. I hear your engines running like thunder at the break of day And if you want my home, you're gonna have to come and take it. I hear your soldiers marching the trample of a thousand feet I can hear machine guns killing people in the street And you ...

Every damn week I lay down some instruments but never come up with any lyrics. This time if I don't think of some lyrics before the deadline I'm just gonna submit an instrumental.

Re: White Noise? (pre-fight)

FLVXXVM FLORVM is out. After laying down some guitar tracks I realized I was never going to come up with a songs worth of lyrics. It did serve the purpose of forcing me to get kinda set up for recording though.

Re: Guitar distortion pedals

I've mostly stopped using distortion pedals. If the amp isn't distorted enough, put a boost pedal in front of it. If its still not enough, put an EQ pedal and turn at least some of the bands all the way up. Of course this is dependent on having amps that you (a) like the sound of and (b) are small e...

Re: what song am I playing here?

If "Seven Nation Army" is as close any anyone can get, then I feel OK about using this in the fight. Although by this time I may not finish before the deadline. I have no lyrics at all yet.

THis is already a song, right? I didn't write this did I? What song is this? I know I've heard it.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)

This is mostly just some off-the-shelf blues riffs recorded because I wanted to preserve this guitar tone I'd dialed in while I was fooling around last night, but I actually do like how the mix turned out considering how barebones it is.

I hope I can come up with something for this. I finally joined the 1980s and got a graphic EQ pedal, and I wanna use it.

Re: Push your entry here (prefight)

The Salt'n'Peppa song was one of only about 2 or 3 I am positive I remember buying on vinyl as a mainstream format for pop singles. I was just getting old enough to buy records, and then vinyl died out except for the vintage LP market and indie/alternative/punk kind of stuff which I wouldn't be into...

Re: Paper Doll Prefight

By the way, didn't the deadline always used to be 10AM PST? Did it move back an hour? If you recall it being 10 A.M. PST, the current deadline is only one minute sooner, not an hour. Nonetheless, it's been 9:59 A.M. PST for at least as long as I've been around. You are of course correct.. my memory...

Re: Paper Doll Prefight

I have a mix that I will submit as-is if I can't improve upon it between now and the deadline, but I do hope I can improve it. One way or the other I will be in. Rock and or roll.
