Re: Song Fight! Turns 20

Sure, although, putting the numbers in the artist name has the side effect of then splitting the artist's songs across multiple artists in the archive, e.g: https://www.songfight.org/artistpage.php?key=add https://www.songfight.org/artistpage.php?key=add_1 https://www.songfight.org/artistpage.php?ke...

Re: Song Fight! Turns 20

Due to limitations in the way votes are recorded, when you vote, you're effectively voting for "all of the songs in the fight attributed to that band name", there is no individual tracking of which song by a band name you voted for.

Re: Copyright musings

Huh. How interesting. So technically, I could construct an entire percussion track which is built out of extremely short samples of copyrighted music, and unenforceable as it would be, I would technically be violating copyright laws. Or would that fall below the threshold for "legally cognizab...

Re: Copyright musings

What your friend was talking about sounds a bit like "fair use" in the US: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use Fair use is a doctrine in United States law that permits limited use of copyrighted material without having to first acquire permission from the copyright holder. But the bad n...

This is going to be the biggest fight since "Strong Coffee" nearly a year ago. Lots of good songs!

I want to vote for The Ramones "Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight)" but it's only a song, so, darn.

Re: Song Fight! Turns 20

Oh, ha, I forgot those were there. (Those I think are trustworthy but fyi the stats on an artist's page on the Jukebox are buggy and not trustworthy.) The Jukebox is saying 993 because it includes the current fight, fyi. So the 7th fight from now will be 1000, and at a pace of roughly 10-ish days pe...

Re: Song Fight! Turns 20

I'm guessing Jim maybe is going off the "number of titles" value listed at the bottom of the music archive page, which is at 992? https://songfight.org/archive.php?sortkey=date&expand=false So maybe "1000th official archived title" is more accurate. That's still cool, and I h...

We also have a dedicated thread for folks to post the lyrics for their songs for every fight. Here's the one for "Surprise, Arizona": https://songfight.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12578 I assumed that thread is for lyrics in songs that are actually entered. For songs that aren't submitted,...

Re: I'm too lazy to be crazy in the (Hazy Holidays reviews)

Songs posted! Are we missing the Third Cat entry? I see a lyric but didn't notice it fitting any of the songs. Hm, that is curious. I have a vague recollection of maybe getting an email from him with a song recently. But I'm scouring the Fightmaster's inbox etc. now and can't find it. So either I'm...

Re: mixing tips

That's a great video! Thanks for sharing. I am definitely guilty of thinking about the kick and bass in terms of carving out separate EQ bands for them. But I'm glad to hear that it's "OK" that I use the same process (kick -> snare -> bass -> oh -> guitars -> vocals etc.) for mixing every ...

I have been thinking about a couple of songfight related things:
1. Bring back instant band
2. Organize a cover fight
Those sound like awesome ideas. Let me know if I can help with either of those.
