Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round Zero "Semiprecious"
I was considering getting one of these a while ago but couldn't decide if it would be worth the money. Does it make a big difference with background noise? The main use of this thing is to filter out low breathing noises and especially the annoying "pop" sound that occurs whenever you spe...

What is this bum thing of which you speak? I am curious ... j$ One of these - a vocal shield https://djcity.com.au/product/se-electronics-se-rfx-reflexion-filter-vocal-booth/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI39KI-dHb8AIVyKqWCh12agZZEAQYASABEgKgl_D_BwE Seems to improve things quite a bit I was considering getting ...

Thought I'd link this here for all who don't know this song yet. Apophenia is a subcategory of pareidolia.

I also mentioned lapis lazuli in my lyric, and, uh, 25 other gemstones, unless you count pearl as a semi-precious stone, too. I also just realized that I mispronounced "onyx" and probably some others. Apologies if this should irritate you while listening, English is not my mother tongue. (...

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round Zero "Semiprecious"
I'm in with a weird, kind of psychedelic song most of which I wrote in one day. Repetitions are in the lyric, gradually increasing towards the end, plus the "Oh, my semiprecious*" part at the end of the chorus gets repeated more often with each chorus (no repeat in the first chorus, one re...

I see. So, that means there isn't just one correct interpretation of the challenge that I don't quite get. That's all I wanted to know. Thanks!Pigfarmer Jr wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 5:51 pmI think the idea is to see how y'all interpret the challenge. So, no. At least, not from me.

Re: Nur Ein XVI: Round Zero "Semiprecious"
Could we maybe get some examples of songs that would pass the challenge, i.e. songs that feature "gradual emphasis of repetitions"? Like, I basically know what that means, semantically, but I'm not sure what the judges were thinking of. Some examples would be helpful. Thanks!

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Four "Carte Blanche"
Some notes on my song: I am not much of a James Bond fan, but I do have an idea what a Bond theme is supposed to sound like. I didn't listen to any of the actual Bond songs beforehand though so I wouldn't be too influenced by them and subconsciously plagiarize. My theme still sounds like I heard it ...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round One "The Handbook"
Some liner notes on my song: This time I wrote the lyric immediately on the day the challenge was posted, like I would write a poem, before I had any music, which is rare for me. The lyric is held in anapaestic tetrameter (da-da-DA times four), most commonly used in comic or absurd poems such as by ...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Two "Chupacabra"
Regarding layered vocals and the like, I had a listen to the four examples provided by the judges. "Fell in Love with a Girl" and Brown Word's "Expert Opinion" indeed have only three tracks, one for the vocals plus two instruments. "Girl Anachronism" though has two voca...

Nick Soma - The Handbook When in need of instructions on how to go on, Consult the Handbook to guide you along. Step one, conjure up a magic well. (See page 90 for how to perform such a spell.) Thanks noma, I'm glad you enjoyed my ridiculous lyrics. My own personal opinion (as very much Not An Actual Linguist) about Chomsky is that his work has been vital to moving the field of linguistics forward, even if the details haven't always been borne out. My cousin is a research professor in chi...

BTW - Micah - as a linguist, let me express how much I hate that guy Chomsky. Not as a person, not for his political views, but for how he totally ruined my interest in everything syntax-related (I'm more of a semantics guy, and I love historical linguistics) with his bullshit theories I had to read...

That “nothing’s left when nothing’s right” also stood out to me as excellent. Good work! Thanks! I googled it expecting to see it was used several dozen times already, and was pleasantly surprised to find it might be somewhat original. As the saying goes, every once in awhile a blind squirrel finds...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Zero "This is Fine"
I don't know if I can say that much about my song, but I'll try. Musically, I wanted to keep it simple and also make everything really bright and chimey. I'm very satisfied with the second guitar doing the arpeggios in the right channel, but I think the other one is perhaps a bit too crunchy. But wh...

Nick Soma - This Is Fine Well I have always been a pessimist And things are looking grim right now for me Money's running low, depression's knocking at the door Darkness is all that I can see The world is turning sadder, People getting madder And I am waiting for a sign Life changing for the better...
