How's My Track?

Post by Chumpy »

https://www.howsmytrack.com

I just recently got hip to this site from a link on Reddit. It's a site for getting anonymous feedback on mixes and tracks. You post a link to a song (like on Soundcloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive) and then you get put into a group with four other folks. When you finish writing reviews of all four songs in your group, you can see your reviews. You then rate the quality of feedback you received about your track, and your feedback gets rated as well. Folks with highly rated feedback get grouped with like individuals, which in theory encourages you to be thoughtful about your reviews.

I just signed up, I'll let ya know how I like it.

We'll all signup/submit tracks at the same time and then get grouped together...

Yeah, there was also slicethepie.com that was similar. That one was fun and I found some pretty good bands that way. (Also a lot of completely forgettable music.)

Yes! I was just thinking of that, but couldn't remember the name. The best part was you could get a gift certificate for an online CD store. I think I got a few CDs that way.

I tried it and got a few pretty good reviews. One song I submitted was this crazy breakcore one that I made early 2019, and then I submitted my entry this week. Nearly all were able to post helpful mixing comments.

It's been a little bit hit and miss for me so far... I've submitted a few older tracks and got a couple decent feedback reviews... a couple 2 line generic not very helpful "not my genre" remarks... but hopefully the feedback rating system works to weed out those in the future. I've also been grouped with someone submitting the same song multiple times... so... the system doesn't take songs or users into account when grouping people it seems. Hope he/she doesn't rate me poorly for submitting the same review because of this... my mind hasn't been changed in 2 days after all... :\

I was wondering about that. Like if we assume that the URL that a user posts is the same, then it wouldn't be that hard to implement some kind of "this reviewer has already seen this song" flag and prevent duplicates. I only submitted twice, and one was electronic and one wasn't so I didn't get any duplicates.
