Thanks for sharing; I was definitely curious but didn't want to ask.

Stomach cancer is what got Seth Gibbs, and those cancers are very hard to detect and even if you do catch them early they're still tough to treat.

You're welcome and thank you.

And you're exactly right. Hard to detect, and tough to treat.

And for the record- I am absolutely planning to put together a tribute to Blue Lang similar to what I threw together for Seth Gibbs.

But if anyone has Blue Lang stories that they wouldn't mind sharing? I'm going to start setting up Zoom sessions in the near future.

I think the only collaboration I did with Blue was Need Stilts with the IRC Allstars, which I wrote as Our Needs Tilt, and we chatted about approaching the lyrics as a Pink Floyd song…making a long list of the characteristics of PF (nothing first person, ambiguous motives, etc.)

He did so much to support those 2 live shows, including shlepping a lot of gear to and from Mountain View. He was a one man roadie wrecking crew.

It looks like most of the feedback he gave on my songs was back in the Dumbrella era, so it's probably lost forever, but I remember he'd always have this weird way of giving compliments about the stuff I made which he thought was just done automatically (when I was doing especially weird electronic experimentation) even when it wasn't.

But the one review of my music that was on this iteration of the forum? He liked my 'bad cat':

I'm realizing I should have clarified in my previous post -- when I say "I didn't know Blue" I mean I never met him in real life, which was definitely something I aspired to remedy. He was someone whose personality radiated from the boards unconstrained by the Internet medium. He was hilarious, brutally honest, and clearly an all-around awesome dude. It's very weird to miss/mourn someone you've never met in person, but here I am.

He was such an amazing musician. He was a part of so many of my favorite songs. An absolutely devastating loss.

I never met Blue, but survived some of his reviews, won a gear fight (Blue-made treble booster) and was invited to play bass on a Sons song (!) I've thought of him often since coming here, and he was on my list of like to meets, big time. Real deal.

RIP

To me, this pushes the importance of a real-life face-to-face Songfight! LIVE to a new level. It could be any of us. I want to meet you, Paco, before one of us bites it!

Death Plunge
Catherine Hanley featuring sonofsupercar
Winner!
Blue modestly assigned credit to Stephen’s cousin who visited from Ireland and added her wicked vocals to this song that Blue wrote entirely himself- lyrics, Dr Sample, Mini Korg patches... the whole shebang. All I could add was a makita drill.
I was definitely holding him back! Glad he got out and fought his own weight with the rest of you.

Playing in 2 separate 3 year stints as sonofsupercar with Blue Lang The Drummer would have been twice what I deserved.
But playing with Blue Lang the guidance councilor/music fan/engineer/editor/fabricator/gear head/shit disturber and loyal trusted ally, was pretty much everything you’d imagine if you spent only a little time with him.
Glad to have gotten his stamp of approval on occasion.
Love me some Blue.

Hey Dennis, thought of you immediately, and glad you stopped by to post your memories. I wholeheartedly agree that the Blue stamp of approval is a powerful thing.

Mo!! valued sonofsupercar alumnus, you know as well as anyone how much fun hanging with Blue was.
I’m well.
Just pissed that Blue won’t hear the new album my band has got coming out. I thought he’d say it was half-ass decent. I’m 10 years older than him but he was always like a big brother.

Ken, thanks for the thoughts. Your support has always been fantastic.

Dennis! We have never communicated, but I am a huge fan of your band! I backed up everything that Blue had on Songhole before it went away, so I have an enormous archive of sonofsupercar mp3s if you're interested. This includes rehearsals, and everything else that was on Songhole. It's a lot. Hundreds of mp3s.

Everyone: I'm going to be putting together a Blue Lang tribute video.

If you would like to be involved, please film yourself answering these questions/requests:

1. Please share any personal memories or stories that involve Blue that you'd be willing to share.
2. Are there any Blue Lang reviews that stand out in your mind? (Positive or negative)
3. What do you believe Blue brought to the Songfight community by being here?
4. What is your favorite song that features Blue Lang, and why?

EDIT: Please film yourself in horizontal/landscape mode so it will look better on a TV or monitor. Thanks!
