Speaking of beer, I decided to finally try Grolsch. Picked up a six-pack (for twelve fucking bucks. man, I am living large these days)

A couple things the Dutch should learn about making beer:

1) Your bottles used to be really cool, what with the stopper top thing. Now, you have bottle caps.
2) Ever heard of twist-off? I mean, it's bad enough that you axed the stopper top, but now I have to use a bottle opener?

The beer inside is okay. Total hops aftertaste, but I'm probably just used to Canadian beer. This is, IMHO, better than a Stella Artois any day of the week.

Boring Grolsch related news. The Grolsch brewery is from the north-east of the country where the local dialect means it is pronounced (very gutterally) 'Hrols'.Ask, like I did, for a 'Grolsch' and they look dumbfounded and say 'I don't know that one, but our local beer is hrols'.

I go for Belgian beer, but not Pils like Stella (light beer belongs in Colorado!).

Chimay or Westmalle Triple are very fine, indeed. But don't ask what they cost in this country (or yours). Just buy one when you feel like having a fabulous beer.

We had some great Belgian beers in France; now if only I could remember what they were called... this one place in Biarritz had 40 or so different beers of various types, all from Belgium, fantastic bar.

Heh, I found one of my favorites... it's called Kwak and came in the most bizarre glass with a wooden frame. I'd link you to a good photo, but censored is still censored.

Grolsschsshs is more than just OK, it is the beer that other beers want to be when they grow up. I currently have 7 empty bottles of it in front of me, and yes, I am kind of drunk riuight now :)

Does anyone remember when Fodroy was a teetotaler?

He was all like, "I hate the taste of beer!" "I don't drink alcohol!" and "Give me a root beer instead!" and stuff like that.

Now a couple of years later up at old Ball State and he's drinking PBR and thinking it rules.

The kid is growing up before are very eyes I tell ya.

I'm sure bar owners think the same. It amazes me when I see four guys ordering PBR tall boys in cans at the bar. They could pitch in on a twelve for the same amount. I guess that's sort of true of ALL drinks at the bar, but it somehow seems more ridiculous when standing at the bar with a can of particularly cheap beer.

I've tried PBR a few times. Every now and then, when I'm playing a house party, some wag puts one in the tip jar. I have yet to develop a fondness for that beer, but as they say, all things in time.

Last night I finished off a bottle of Yellow Tail Shiraz from a couple days ago. It had gotten pretty sharp.

Ah see, you are not a college student who makes minimum wage. I would drink more expensive beer if I had money. But PBR is definitely the best of the cheapo beers.

Oh, far be it from me to pass judgment on your choice of beers. I guess when I was young and poor (as opposed to old and in debt), I would get as MUCH of that cheap beer as I could, and drink it at home. But that'd be at the expense of the bar scene. (Not a big loss for me at the time.)

Do they sell a beer called Steel Reserve out there in Indiana? A guy I work with goes with that as his cheap option. Genessee Cream Ale is 12 bucks for a thirty-pack. I like that one.
