Ha, that's pretty cool. I'm a little disappointed that the shamash isn't in the center. Not sure if that's a rule, but I'd hit it for 8 crazy nights. :P

Shamash on the end is a pretty common arrangement as well. Wikipedia says it's of Macedonian origin. The only true requirement for a menorah is for the shamash to be raised up higher than the other candles, and this one certainly qualifies.

I found this over on Songstuff. This really tickled me, as a computer geek wanna be musician I can identify.

I would argue that Bb/A# minor is slightly harder to finger than F major. Barre chords are easy after being obsessed with Johnny Ramone for 10 years though...

Yeah, the context of this bit is she's trying to learn guitar in a hurry and is learning the chords in alphabet order... which is a terrible way to learn guitar (or how to play music at all).

For A#m I just do the barre chord version, because I am a weenie.

I mean, I'm assuming, based on how Märk phrased his statement. I'm a piano player, damnit.

I play it either at the 6th fret (6 8 8 6 6 6) or at the 1st (1 1 3 3 2 1) depending on where I'm coming from/going to. I was talking about the latter chord when I said it's harder to play than an F major.

A year ago when I was just learning guitar and had just started Songfight, I would look for all sorts of ways to avoid including F (or Bm) in song. Disgustingly hard to play on my cheap acoustic. And now, even with an electric guitar that’s much easier to play, I genuinely love Fmaj7 and Bm7. I’d like to thank being lazy for this discovery.

Forget about this Major/Minor nonsense... just be ambiguous with some powerchords... get rid of those silly 3rds.

We... we'll have to agree to disagree on that. I eat, sleep and breathe the 3rd. I adjust my tone to accentuate the 3rd. You need 3rds, and power chords lacking it are not even chords, they're intervals.

Having said that, are you gonna be part of my Uberschnauzerhosen supergroup? :)

I'm only saying this because I can only play powerchords obviously... If I was more proficient I'd say: "Forget those silly Major chords! Barchord Minors or bust!" and yes, I want to be in your supergroup. :P

Dear Aggretsuko,

X X 3 2 1 1

You don't need to barre that whole first fret, just the first two strings.

Love, Niv.

PS- Go learn some power chords. What is this? Jazz??

I could never easily barre less than the whole neck. I can barely avoid barre-ing the E string. I have no idea how one would barre just the top two strings AND form a chord with the rest of your fingers. My hand hurts just thinking about it.

My issue is not really being able to not strum all the strings when I'm getting into it, so at the very least I'm going to do a soft barre to mute the strings that shouldn't ring open.

Super relatable. I first got an acoustic guitar when I was maybe 15 years old or thereabouts. I then proceeded to make zero progress on my guitar playing between the ages of 15 1/2 and uhhh... 35 or so? because I was stymied by barre chords, including F, and I had never realized that 1) you didn’t have to barre all the strings/play every string every time you played a chord, 2) a cheap steel string acoustic with high action is probably the hardest possible guitar to learn barre chords on. Anyway, eventually I got over that hurdle and have slowly been learning. Now I know SEVERAL chords.
