Who koo koo choo?
I saw "Across the Universe" tonight, and liked it a lot. It made me want to ask you all this question:
Which songfighter should sing which Beatles song?
I think Frankie Big Face should sing "Across the Universe". How about you?

roymond should do "i am the walrus".
i actually thought of this as one of my possible gift of music songs, so it's funny you ask this.
also, hoblit should do "happiness is a warm gun". that would be pretty cool.
maybe for my gift of music this year, i'll pick 4 beatles songs and throw caution to the wind.

An act of congress should require this to happen. Or, like, Hoblit should just do it or something. But it NEEDS to be so.erik wrote:Hoblit --- "Why Don't We Do It in the Road"

This was requested at a show this weekend, in fact. I'll give you a piano/vocal version as soon as I can, and then you can decide if you were right.jolly roger wrote:Jim Tyrrell should do Yesterday.
Also: here's some I'd love to hear...
Fixing A Hole - Jim Of Seattle
Helter Skelter - WreckdoM
Penny Lane - Puce
Eleanor Rigby - Glenn Case
I Will - Bjam
...and Octothorpe's Garden would be an instant masterpiece, I think.

When I worked at my first job...there was a lady friend of mine who used to get me to sing that song over and over. She got a real kick out of me singing 'why don't we da da do it in the road'. So I went around singing that song for her every time she requested.
I love The Beatles. Somebody here, I think it might have been Jack Shite... thought I should do "Don't Let Me Down". (might have been Glen...I can't remember for sure)
I used to relate FBF to The Beatles in my head a lot because some of his music comes off Beatlesque if you will. I'd like to hear him do Strawberry Fields in full.
I could totally see Octothorpe or Starfinger doing one of Ringo's various Beatles tracks such as Octopus's Garden, With a Little Help From My Friends, and definitely Yellow Submarine.

I'm betting that JB could do Blackbird some justice too.
(I had considered Hey Bulldog at some point but let my mind forget. Bow wow RUFF!)

It was a little of both, but I really tried to think about every choice that I made for every songfighter. I thought this one would suit you.Billy's Little Trip wrote:I don't know if you were just trying to include everyone or you really thought about it, but damn good pick. I imagine I was deliberately left off, because I'm not really established yet. But if it's not clear, I'm participating to the full extent, and beyond, and I'm here to stay. I'm already at about a dozen songs and 250 posts, if you count SF and related competitions. It might not be a complete picture, but unlike most of the people you've mentioned, I'll do almost anything someone suggests I do. I almost asked Erik for a recommendation, and decided against it, (though he's still welcome to), but I don't feel good getting left off a list of this size, despite whatever the circumstances are. Like, "Wow, everyone but me..." But that's a familiar feeling. So meh.GlennCase wrote:Sorry if I forgot anybody.

NO ONE was deliberately left off! I actually don't like your suggestion that I would do such a thing. It's true that I'm also not familiar with your sound at this point and the common thing about everyone on the list is they are either people I have met, or I've heard a good enough amount of their material to match them up with a song that I think suits them. To say I deliberately left you off is to suggest that I thought about you, and then decided "Nah, he's too new." The fact is, you didn't even come to mind because I haven't checked out the new fights in quite a while. You have a dozen songs at this point? Man, it really HAS been a long time since I have payed attention to the recent fights.Lord of Oats wrote:I imagine I was deliberately left off, because I'm not really established yet. [edit] Fun Fact: Of the first 42 acts that I mentioned, I have met 24 of them at various SongFight live functions.
This last sentence irks me almost as much as the first one. What is the purpose of this sentence? Are we supposed to feel sorry for you? It comes off as a "poor me" moment, and I find that sort of attitude to be very annoying. There are a LOT of other songfighters that I probably could have mentioned, but they didn't come to mind.Lord of Oats wrote:but I don't feel good getting left off a list of this size, despite whatever the circumstances are. Seriously, if you were offended by being left off the list I created, you need to develop a thicker skin.
ROCK!

Precisely. I don't expect to hear but maybe one or two of them recorded, but they sound pretty freaking sweet in my head. This was meant to be a fun list, and nothing more.erik wrote: Dude, I left my own brother-in-law off my list. It was just a fun list, that's all.
A simple "Can you think of a song that would fit me?" might have been enough for me to listen to a few of your original songs, and make a suggestion based on what I heard. The reply that I DID get does not inspire me to want to do that.
For future reference, here is a method that might have worked better:

Dear Erik,
I would like to know which Beatles songs you would pick for me, and for Frankie Big Face if you get a moment to think about it. Thank you.
