I'm not sure how many places could host a Songfight show on their own, but I love the idea of picking a day and having as many different concerts as possible on the same night.

Maybe there is some kind of online equivalent?
Ken's Super Duper Band 'n Stuff - Berkeley Social Scene - Tiny Robots - Seamus Collective - Semolina Pilchards - Cutie Pies - Explino! - Bravo Bros. - 2 from 14 - and more!

By the way, in an attempt to get more visibility for this place I've been going through various songwriting/music-making subreddits and posting a thread about this week's contest since it just went up.

Hopefully it results in some entries!
Cool, thanks!

Yeah, this one for a start. Maybe we make it a three night show? Or maybe a 24-hour straight marathon festival?!!

even in the years I wasn't participating under a vast assortment of monikers, it was always comforting knowing songfight still existed. I hope this place never goes away!

I've started reaching out to folks who did cover art back in the day. Bortwein's going to keep an eye out for a title and maybe try to make some art. I emailed drew and Sam Brown (exploding dog) and Chris Onstad (Achewood). Anybody have any clue how to contact Lauren and Jessica Hale...? Or any other of the old school art folks?

I'd misremembered how the voting system originally worked: it was even simpler than that. A separate voting page for each artist! I still assume Collin just checked the number of hits to each page to tally up the votes.

How are we counting fight #1000? Are we including the special one-off private challenges and retroactively-inserted shitposts? What about fights that only existed at the earliest live shows?

I'm guessing Jim maybe is going off the "number of titles" value listed at the bottom of the music archive page, which is at 992?

https://songfight.org/archive.php?sortk ... pand=false

So maybe "1000th official archived title" is more accurate. That's still cool, and I hadn't been paying any attention to that, so, thanks for mentioning it, Jim. We should do something to commemorate that!

(That page says "number of fights = 766" I'm guessing due to counting the multiple-title fights as one fight.)

I got it from the SFJukebox, clicking on "Stats" in the lower left corner.

Oh, ha, I forgot those were there. (Those I think are trustworthy but fyi the stats on an artist's page on the Jukebox are buggy and not trustworthy.) The Jukebox is saying 993 because it includes the current fight, fyi. So the 7th fight from now will be 1000, and at a pace of roughly 10-ish days per fight, that could happen in late March.

Probably more like April if the Songfight Gap is taken into account.

1000 might be a good number to try for the 100 songs in a contest record we attempted with ‘Art Bomb’.

It would be possible to break the record if the restriction on multiple entries per participant were lifted. In fact, it could be a fight in which each participant were REQUIRED to submit at least 3 distinct songs to be eligible. And maybe a maximum length of one minute each.

There's no rule against multiple entries per person. Just a suggestion that you focus on making one good entry instead of three crappy ones.

Y'all should make a rule that only one entry per band name to avoid the problems with multiple band names and their work arounds on the front page. As many band names as you want.

People can already enter with as many band names as they want, and the workarounds that have been used are just because there's no way to tell things apart otherwise, both in the software and by the humans using it.
