I'm teaching a four track recording class!

Set up live gigs with each other, announce gigs you're playing around the country or whatever, talk about how the show went, post links to recordings, etc.

Making the Most
Of Your 4-Track

Thursday
01/18/07
7 - 9 pm

Who says analog is dead?

This is the first of a series of awesome four-track recording classes! We will dust off our cassette four track recorders for a night of tips, tricks, and how-tos. Basic recording concepts will be covered as we record a song from start to finish. We will cover the basic layout of the fourtrack recorder, microphones and their use, and how to record vocals, guitars, synths, and other instruments. We will work together, so there is no need to bring your own machine.

This Class is $5.

Well, if you weren't 372.6 minutes from me, I'd be there.....that's almost 745.2 minutes round trip.
I still remember my first 4 track. *flashes to me and my 4 track holding hands and dancing in slow motion in a field of poppies while that old turtles song, "happy together" plays in the background*
By the way, will you be discussing "ping ponging"?

Of course, bouncing will be one of the lessons. I better remind myself how to do it first....

My goal is to record a "song" from start to finish illustrating basic recording principles and the uses for the fourtrack, ending with a song as an mp3.

Using a drum machine I hope.
I would record all 4 tracks, then mix them down to a cassette tape, then bring them back left and right to track 1 and 2 and add 2 more tracks and mix down to the cassette again, etc etc. The sound quality was horrible on the final mix. But it allowed me to write complete songs for the band to hear my concept because I can't write sheet music nor read it, lol.

I'm gonna do tracks 1-3 bouncing to 4, ending up with 7 tracks I think. I don't have a lot of time so I have to limit things. Probably no drum machine, but a click track, and a synth to illustrate how to record an instrument level instrument.

i never knew 4-tracks could bounce to mp3! ;)

wait, i guess the digital ones can. i'm so old school, i have a hard time using the term "4 track" outside the analog realm.

Two people showed up to my class and it went very well. It was a nice reminder about how far I've come in my recording life since 1990 when I bought my fourtrack.
