SongFight! Tour 2008: Portland, April 4th

Post by anti-m »

We have a venue!
Imbibe
2229 SE Hawthorne Blvd
Portland, OR 97214
503-239-4002

That's Friday, April 4th, 2008
Exact time TBD -- I suspect we'll start around 8:00ish.

Here's who I'm assuming is in for Stumptown. (Stumptown is Portland. )

Maybe me (Pending time to practice!)
Mico Saudad (? Are you comin' dude?)
fluffy
Primitive Screwheads
Octothorpe

Is that everyone?

...And if I may put in a plug for the PNW... If you've never been here, you're really missing out! Springtime here is absolutely beautiful.

I will be there. I must once again ask, however, if there will be any sort of SFO->PDX caravan action going on. Shared road trip? Everyone on the same flights? Or at the very least could I expect to get picked up from the airport by a local? And then I am under the impression that however things continue through to Moscow I am basically tagging along with Spud, if that is not too much of an imposition. (I fold up and can fit in the trunk.)

I don't think I can make the trip north this time and I haven't heard of anyone else planning to do it. Sorry Fluffy, you may have to represent CA on your own.

I'll play some KSDBNS or KNI on the PA before the show starts in the 'Scow.

Portland is a no go for us, sadly. Just not feasible. Still going to try for Seattle. Our attendance at the Spokane and Moscow shows are for sure.

ROCK!

Hello folks! From the other thread I have to report that we currently have on tap for your use at the Portland show:

-1 ten (or "dude maybe it's twelve") channel mixer with 2 monitors and 2 mains
-A basic drum kit
-Some mics and cables
-My old acoustic with soundhole pickup

Let me know what else you need but cannot bring and I will strive to make it happen.

Now. Scheduling may be an issue. Evidently the venue has another act scheduled before us that wont wrap it up until 8. (I really hope they end on time.) I suspect that we may not be looking at starting the actual music until at least 9:00. This means we likely have to restrain ourselves to 45 minutes apiece (including any setup and breakdown that needs to happen.)

So the next thing I need from you guys is requests / thought/ whims for time slots. Here they are, as best I know them:

9:00-9:45
9:50-10:35
10:40-11:25
11:30-12:15
12:20-1:05

Sorry, guys -- it'll be a late night. (Tighten up those sets!)

Who wants where? I will operate as a benevolent dictator on this -- ie, I'll consider your input, then make my own decision. Unless someone really cares a lot.

Octothorpe (less fluffy) will be driving back to Seattle after the show. That said, I would really like to stay for the whole thing, so I don't suppose it matters when we go on. However, there is no fucking way we are going to play for 45 minutes. We're too damned old. 30 minutes tops. TOPS I SAID! And we're not going to try to stretch it by doing an impromptu version of Been To China NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY TO MAKE US.

45 minutes? We could all play 2 sets of the exact same thing. I'm kidding, I'm a kidder. p++ will play any time slot, though whether we'll chase people out or not is something to consider, heh. We've gotten a bit more... punk-ish.

So what I'm not seeing in that list is:
Amplifiers
Mike stands
Instruments (beyond your acoustic)

I have available (looking at the list above):
Small bass amp (60 watts) Yes, the one that was used @ Santa Cruz '06.
Small guitar amp (50 watts)
I'd rather leave the Casiotone home this year. Frankly, it's embarrassing.
3 mike stands (1 straight, 2 boom)
A few oddball electric guitars, with quirks.
An electric bass.
Instrument cables.
Other odds-n-ends.

What's wanted/needed?

Yes, it seems like a luxurious amount of time, doesn't it? In my experience, the 20 minute set can easily take up 45 minutes of time by the time you account for dinking around with setup, technical glitches, and booze consumption.

However, I should have mentioned before that these time slots are approximate -- and we will certainly leap at the opportunity to accelerate things in case someone doesn't need his full slot.

We will also have some kind of amplifier set up, but it isn't mine, so I can't give you the specs. We will also have at least 2 mic stands. (2 booms)

I am assuming that people prefer to use their own instruments, but if not, I will unearth stuff for folks to use. Make your requests now! Go!

Repost dredged from my previous post, and then some (still not used to the new look & feel here)...

p++ will play any time slot, though whether we'll chase people out or not is something to consider, heh. We've gotten a bit more... punk-ish. Louder, faster!

And I live ±15 minutes away from the venue, so last minute "oh-shit" runs for gear are not out of the question.

Konichiwa, fluffy! Ohio gozaimashte! (I know I'm wrong, please humor me, heh.)

Auntie, is there a cover for this show? The juggernaut of promoting (well, mostly Mz. Conduct  ) is rarin' to get at it.

I'm sayin' no to cover. We want to encourage people to come -- and covers dissuade Portlanders...who are notoriously cheap. I'll post an order here presently --

OK Kids -- sorry I've been quiet on this front -- I've been at work all weekend and just learned that I'll be moving in about a month. INSANITY!

BUT I'm very excited for the show. The fabulous K brothers are making my stuff sound a million times more better -- I think it'll be a keen set.

So, I didn't mean to scare everyone off with threats of benevolent dictatorship -- I was kidding really!

Here's a potential setlist of sorts. I'm asking the K bros to join me in taking the bullet and playing last -- since it may be a late-ish night, and I don't want anyone to get squeezed out by time constraints. Otherwise, I'm defaulting to the playlist we had last time. Minus Ken. :(

Again, times are approximate. Please feel free to not use your entire slot!

9:00-9:45 Mico Saudad
9:50-10:35 fluffy (Sockpuppet)
10:40-11:25 Primitive Screwheads
11:30-12:15 Octothorpe
12:20-1:05 Anti-M and the Brothers K.

How do people feel about that order of operations?

How are people with places to stay / arrive? I'll be running around rounding up stuff prior to the show, but folks are more than welcome to join me in that roundup if they arrive and are at loose ends! I plan on being at the venue around 7:30 or so. I've rented a minivan to haul crap around, so Pat, if you need a hand getting and of your stuff to and from the venue, please lemme know!

What am I forgetting?

Rock and ROLL!

So load in's at 8ish? Is the front door where we haul our stuff through?

The front door, yes, that is my understanding. We could conceivably start bringing stuff in prior to 8, but there isn't really a "back stage" per se... so it might be a little hectic -- what with the other music that is supposedly stopping at 8:00.

I'll attempt to confirm load-in plans with the guy. Does your stuff need a ride to zee venue?

And yes, bring amps, mike stands, and mikes... (I'd label 'em to be safe!)

Swee!

I'm hoping to put up some posters this eve or so.

Hey Kids!

When are y'all arriving in PDX?

Pat and I are determining the meetup spot (I've PM'd you RG!)

I'm thinking that we'll plan on getting together around 5:00pm or so... Load in will happen at 8:00pm at the venue. If people get here earlier... we could potentially do a field trip to ride the infamous TRAM!

My flight arrives at PDX at 2:45 PM. My understanding is that Pat is going to pick me up but perhaps I am mistaken?
