Knives Out

Post by Lunkhead »

We watched this at home tonight. Maybe we just got exposed to too much hype or something. It was just fine. Not blown away. B+

Brief spoiler comments below:
SPOILER
SPOILER_SHOW
The twist was there was no twist, which was frankly disappointing. I'm so cynical at this point that I expect a twist and so don't really get invested in expecting any particular outcome, thinking I'll just get the rug pulled out from under me. They really portrayed a character in a way that seemed deliberately misleading, but turned out to be just what it seemed on face value, which I guess was supposed to subvert expectations by being positive. To me it just fell flat.

I saw this 14 hours into my flight the other day and loved it. I thought it was super fun.

Just got home from seeing this on the big screen. The script has plenty of camp characters and great dialogue, brought to life by fine performances all round. The plot has lots of twists, in the manner of good old-fashioned detective stories. The set almost steals the show. An homage to a classic genre, lightly overlaid with a postmodern sensibility; not a lot of deep thought or significance, just good, well-paced fun.

I saw Knives Out in the theaters around Christmas (I think) and loved it. Just rewatched it on DVD this week. Still loved it. It was fun to pick up all the little details, knowing what they add up to.
