Brick
I am now somewhat obssessed with Brick. I saw it yesterday and can't stop thinking and reading about it. If you don't know what it is, Brick is a film noir set in present-day high school, but with all the rapid-fire thirties/forties slang left intact. The writer/director is first-timer Rian Johnson, and the performances he gets out of his young cast are amazing. An obvious similarity, I think, would be the Leo DiCaprio Romeo + Juliet, but, as much as I enjoyed that, I like this a lot more. The only reason I'm giving it an A and not an A+ is time. I have to let it sink in before I welcome it to my list of all-time favorites. It's very nearly as good as Chinatown , I think, and Chinatown is a classic for the ages. We'll see.
Aren't you the guy that hit me in the eye?

Ditto. (Then again, I watch almost anything with Emilie De Ravin in it)Tonamel wrote:I've wanted to see this ever since I saw the trailer. Good to know it lives up to the perview!

I concur! This movie was great.raisedbywolves wrote:A
Who'da thunk that a contemporary high school would work so well as a setting for a film noir?
Then again -- for a lot of people, high school is all about self-conscious cool. So, in some ways, film noir with its emphasis on style, image, and stagy tough-guy talk is really the perfect medium for a high school drama.
I do give the movie some minus points for being hard to hear at times. Some of the audio sounds like it was recorded with a Mr. Microphone, or something.
