Still trying to figure out one lyric in the song of my choice (nobody on the Internet seems to know what it is so I'll probably end up just making something up that fits) and I also need to, like, record something? Oh and I'm getting YET ANOTHER FUCKING COLD (and also just got the first of what is sure to be several lovely, large bills from my hospital stay a few weeks ago). This just isn't my year.

Okay after a month of setbacks and illness and wrist pain and Apple pushing out buggy, unusable, UI- and workflow-breaking updates to Logic I FINALLY have a fucking recording done (at least good enough for now although I'm not 100% happy with it, I think I'm at like 40% or something but FUCK EVERYTHING).

I just wanted to mention that I am eager to listen to these songs. Easy for me to say, considering I don't have to do any of the legwork, but still: c'mon, gimme gimme gimme.

Got 'em - here you go - http://johnnycashpoint.com/blog/2016/01/30/gom1516/ (or just go to www.johnnycashpoint.com - should be the first post for a month or so) - any spelling or linking mistakes, just let me know. Also any late arrivals just send to Niv or directly to me and I'll update as and when ...

Paco - thanks so much for the cover - enjoyed it, especially the switch to minor keys, very much and the last minute or so was creepy-awesome :)

Nice work, Schlimminy Cricket! You did a beautiful job with that track - it's not at all how I would have expected someone to take that one, but it is lovely.

In an odd twist of GOM fate, Mr. Cricket was both my gifter and my giftee this year. I have a rather long list of excuses for not finishing; I'm not going to bore you with them, but I assure you they are numerous and valid. It may take another few weeks, but I will deliver a song!

Fluffy,

Nice work! I love your treatment of Sing it Out. The piano sounds lovely, and the backing vocals and cello really ad a lot to the feeling of the song. I really like how big and reverent you made it sound too, like it's being played in a church or something. Robert Pollard is a prolific genius, so many of his great songs just get thrown off to hissy tape and then never again get re-examined. I'm pleased as hell that you picked this one to cover, and am super happy with the outcome.

Chumpy, I'm glad you liked it. Has anyone ever figured out what the penultimate line in the song is? I couldn't find any transcripts that even tried to fill it in with anything remotely accurate. So I just went with the phonemes I heard. :)

It's funny how all the lyric sites all have the same user generated source material, which is often just wrong. You managed fine, until I listened very carefully I couldn't tell you didn't sing the line exactly how I think it is. I think the last lines go like:

Now when she grows to be a good woman
Will you dare to follow
Where next will you go
Throw your black book out the window
Sing it out

I think that makes the most sense in the context of the overall theme of settling down, which I think was a decision that Robert struggled with.

That's one of the things I thought the lyrics might be but it still didn't quite fit the phonemes I heard. But then again the very last 'sing it out' sounds more like 'swing it out' (which is how I sang it) so maybe this wasn't particularly rehearsed.

I corresponded with Glennny privately, but here is my comment also publicly.

You know, I saw your original comment on the forum thread and thought that you could be talking about one from my list. I am very glad to hear it's Sundown - I have very similar memories of listening to it and other Lightfoot songs with my dad too. I especially treasure those memories since he died. Anyway, I like the cover a lot ! Great job, and even more, you made me smile.
