Also, no worries, BYD! I totally understand, and if you haven’t been able to go home in 7 weeks, well, thank you for what you’re doing.
Thanks - I'm one of the lucky ones that can go to the workplace and still have a job, but to keep things safe at the house, I'm not staying there because of potential contamination issues with immunocompromised family members. And my equipment is in that basement.

I've been stiffed a few times, so I get it, and didn't want you to miss out. Thanks Ujnhunter for stepping up!

And thank you to the Jerks for doing a poppin' Paul Nicholas tune. That one is right in your wheelhouse and you didn't disappoint.
Now that I'm out of self Q, I can finally listen to the songs on my commute in the car on a decent sound system, and they're pretty awesome!

I think I'd be interested in taking part in a round 2. The original flava idea sounds pretty interesting.

As the very fortunate recipient of a hxaro and from covering random songs from the jukebox, and in previous sidefights, I can attest to the wonderful delight of hearing your songs interpreted by others and wrangling other fighters songs around. I love GOM, but Original Flava might be nice this round. Or both, perhaps alternately, for however long.

That said, I may not be able to complete anything quickly as mandatory double shifts are already underway. It's not every day for my shift yet, but it's coming.

Anyway, hope to see this keep/build momentum.

Covering each other's songs would definitely be fun. How has it worked in the past - do you just peruse the other person's Song Fight archive and pick a song you like, or does everyone pick a small number of their own songs to choose from? The latter might even the scales for people who don't have much of a Song Fight presence built up, especially if you can choose songs from outside Song Fight.

Phlebia / SleepySilverDoor - your take on Streets of Philly is entirely different, yet totally appropriate for the lyrical content and original vibe. It builds really well. Very affecting. Even disturbing. Nice work!

How delightful! Owl has submitted a bonus track! Owl for JB - Blackstar (Radiohead). I'm not normally a big Radiohead fan personally, but this cover gives me chills, especially the harmonies. Thanks Owl!

Aw thanks Mike! Hope you enjoy, JB, it's just an acoustic G&G I recorded last night. I'm not actually a big Radiohead fan myself, but I loooove this song (and depending on how much time and energy I have, I might continue down the list of "awesome songs other people picked" and do a few more quickie covers).

The Gillian Welch cover of it is actually my favorite version and a much better acoustic take than mine:

Yeah, I heard it and noted that the backing track was extremely simple -- just a stripped down backbeat, a soft pad that plays maybe 5 chords the whole song, and the kind of sad poignant lyrics. My goal was to make it even simpler and sadder -- an exaggeration of it, I guess. I'm happily surprised that it was so well received! (come to think of it my best reviewed songs tend to be in that style, maybe I ought to stick to my doomy slowcore style more often!)

I'm still running through all the songs. I could write reviews for everyone if y'all are interested? I've been swamped lately with weird work schedules and spending my free time sewing facemasks, but I could probably find time.

This was lovely (both the owl version and the GW version). I saw Radiohead live in 1998 for their OK Computer tour, at which point my brain/body said, “ok, well done, enjoyed that, now that’s enough Radiohead for life, moving on”, and I haven’t listened to anything since. I’d forgotten how much I love those songs on The Bends though, and I think it’s time to go back and listen to it again.

I am finally in, have emailed my song for Owl. Mucho apologies for the tardiness. Still not completely sold on this mixdown and I may rework it, feel free to PM me if anything seems glaringly off.

And I still can't sing.

I'm sure whatever stragglers are left don't need any additional encouragement or pressure but:

A Two Jerks One Vote Gift of Music review podcast is in the works, scheduled to be recorded tomorrow. All of the GoM songs that are available within the next 24 hours will be commented upon. Any songs not posted by then will miss out on the usual treatment from Chumpy and I, plus some insightful commentary from a special guest.

Not 100% sure whether that is incentive to submit or incentive to delay; it is what it is. Please submit (and/or post links) to any late GoM covers asap.

Really enjoyed this! I don't think I've heard any of your stuff before so didn't know what to expect, but I think you sold your abilities short, this is a really good cover!
