Hey folks, hope the songs are coming along! I've just seen the Nur Ein announcement that it will be starting this coming Monday, so I'm inclined to not do a long extension for the coverfight. We're also thinking about doing a listening party the night of the 4th (US/PDT.) I'm thinking the deadline for listening party purposes will be 12PM Monday 4 May PDT (UTC-7) which gives folks a bit more than another day to finish things up. Obviously there's no penalty for turning your homework in late, and I'll just add the songs to the front page as I did with the GoM as they come in. :-)

Yes sir, I'll take that extra day. Been feeling sick the last couple of days which has slowed me down (no, I don't think it's covid-19).

I'll take it. I've been marinating on the track for the past week or so and I still am only half certain exactly what my approach is gonna be. Definitely a heavy stylistic shift, but i have the next two days off so I guess I'll get crackin'.

An extra day? I’ll take it. I feel like I can overwork this song even further into the ground.

Listening party for the Original Flava Coverfight - COVID-19 Special Edition
Monday 5/4/20 at 9 pm EST - I'll try and have a preshow running before that for a while...

If the 'Mythical Creature' SongFight is posted by then, I can add that to the evening's festivities as well. Otherwise, I'll replay 'Bent Straight'.
Think of it as a shakedown to get my system back up and running for the Nur Ein Monday Night LPs starting 5/11!

I'm in! I hope you like my submission, giftee. I did change the key and the tempo, and the instrumentation. Also the chord progression, and a bit of the melody. Also some of the lyrics. Other than that, it's an entirely faithful cover.

Mix sounds good with fresh ears, so I'm in! Really excited to hear the results, I had so much fun covering this song that I kept forgetting that somebody out there is also covering one of my songs, which is a bonus!

phew, in at last! I spent all week screwing around and getting absolutely nowhere, and then recorded about 95% of the song today. I'm happy with it, though, I had fun throwing in a bunch of stuff including a melodica going through effects pedals. And I had my husband listen and he said it sounded like The Magnetic Fields (one of my favorite bands). Hope my giftee likes it! It's a sweet song.

The Jerks are in!

Both Ryan and I pitched different songs from our SECRET PARTNER's catalog, and we couldn't decide which one to do, and since they're both sorta short, so we did both of them. Congrats, it's a Jerkatorium twofer! I had so much fun, and I love both of these songs.

I've picked a song to cover, but I won't be able to get it in for the listening party. Hold tight, partner!

In! I shortened the song I chose from about 3:20 to just over two minutes. But by gum, it's jam packed. I hope my giftee enjoys it.

Note: I left in an exclamatory statement at the beginning of the song after I did the drums in one take (such as they may be). It is not directed towards anyone in particular, giftee especially, but rather to the gods of too many takes to get it right.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.
