Let’s make a DDR pack

Post by fluffy »

Lately I’ve gotten back into playing Dance Dance Revolution in a major way, and I’ve also found how much fun it is to make DDR step charts for my own songs in StepMania, an open source clone.

The process of making a step chart is a bit involved although software like ArrowVortex makes it a lot easier. I’ve used it to make a song pack of my own stuff. It’d be fun to make a song pack of Song Fight! stuff too.

If anyone has suggestions for songs to use, post them here. Good candidates have a steady, clear beat, and are around 1.5-2 minutes long. Having interesting rhythmic accents is a huge bonus. And of course it’d be great to get lots of people making the actual step charts.

If anyone’s interested in working on this I’ll probably set up a GitHub repo for collaboration, and of course I’ll figure out an alternate approach for folks who aren’t git-savvy.

DDR means East Germany to me. I have no idea what you are talking about. FWIW. I don’t think we need an East Germany pack.

I googled DDR charts and I think I'm more confused now than before.

I youtubed DDR step charts and I think I know what's going on now. Obviously, I'll be of no help for this at all.

I edited my original post to make it clear that DDR is short for Dance Dance Revolution.

Also here's a documentary about the game:

My favorite things about this game are that it's a good cardio workout and it also helps me with my rhythm. Playing DDR made me a much better drummer.

I love this idea! I’ll have to see which BYD songs might be worth it for gameplay.
