Official TOTAL REQUEST COVERFIGHT sign-up Thread

Post by ken »

Total Request Coverfight begins!

The deadline to sign up is Sunday, September 17th, 2006.

Once everyone is in, I will make a list of participants. Each participant will then pick a song of their own for each participant to cover. You may pick a different song for each person or the same for multiple. The point is to make thoughtful choices. In the spirit of Coverfight, you should choose songs from the Songfight Archive. These lists should be sent to me directly. I will then assign one song per participant by private message. I would rather you don't post your lists for everyone to see, but if you'd like to, at least wait until assignements are given.

Timeline:
signups until 9/17/06
lists due 9/24/06
songs assigned 9/30/06
songs due 11/1/06

Okay? Who's in?

Be well,
Ken

still don't really understand - but, yeah I'm in

Do you mean if there are (say) 10 entrants - I pick 10 of my songs and assign 1 of them to each entrant - then you pick the one of the entrants to do the song assigned to him?

I think I'll be in.

What kind of a final deadline are we looking at, though? When will the actual songs be due? I want to see if I can work this into my schedule.

In! And Ray I think you've got the right idea, but I'm not entirely sure myself.

My question is, since I don't really have many Lunkhead songs to select from, is it OK if I also pick songs from the non-Lunkhead projects I'm involved with?

you still have to do a themesong. I don't know if ken will blackball you or anything, but you really ought to get on that, brother.

I'll do it.

I wouldn't mind doing this, but I think my short list of songs here probably precludes me. EDIT But I'll wait for Ken's denial / approval

"Each participant will then pick a song of their own for each participant to cover...I would rather you don't post your lists for everyone to see,..."

Where does a "list" play in all this? Sounds like there's one song being submitted for someone else to cover. I'm confused (and loving it, btw).

I believe, per the prior thread, this is what happens:
1. a list of everyone who's entering is made
2. you choose a song of yours for each person to perform
3. you order your list by preference (? not sure if this is how it's going to go)
4. you submit your list to ken (or whoever)
5. they try to match you with your highest preference for performer and song.

ken, confirm or disconfirm this?

Yeah, the "for each participant" bit is the important part. So if 10 people sign up, you would send Ken a list saying "Songfighter A covers Song 1, Songfighter B covers Song 2, ..., and Songfighter J covers Song 10" 10 assignments, 1 song per coverer, in that example.

So I'm still wondering about folks who wind up not having enough songs to go around. Could we draw from our collabs, and/or assign the same songs to multiple people (but only if we have to)?

I can't imagine that either of those would be problems. The important thing is that you have a track for everyone; if you really want a cover of your song Violet Wants It Her Way I should expect you can put it down as your pick for everyone. The thing is--only one person's going to get you to cover, so it doesn't matter what you put down for everyone else. However the person who's going to cover you is unknown to you. If you and I had collaborated on a song, "Rosetta," and we both put it on our lists for different artists, that could be a 'problem' (if we want the most songs from the most people), and if we both would most like Ken to perform it out of all our songs and all the performers, the issue could be made moot by denying it to one of us.

Actually, there's some relation here to <a href="http://www.australianpolitics.com/votin ... eferential voting</a>, though we won't likely go through the trouble of finding the most agreeable song/artist combination for everyone, which would require some work with statistics (basically, start from the bottom and go as high up the preference list as you can for the most people you can.)

Well, counting collaborations and stuff - I can easily accomodate over 50 entrants (how do you like the size of my repertoire ladies? )

I think I could accomodate around 30-40 entrants.

I could supply maybe 4 of those with good songs, but thats by-the-by.

Ok, I'm in.
