Sidefight: Hippy-Hop remixes

Post by wages »

Okay, here's the deal. One of my bestest friends is throwing a Memorial Day B-day party (40 to 150 people). I was inspired to write a song for this party. A song where I rap. A song that incorporates samples from his favorite band, Pink Floyd. Well, I've created such a song.

Here is that song (unmastered). If I could get someone to just mix this down, that would be great!
http://www.philwages.com/music/partyatk ... _demo3.mp3

So what's up with the SIDEFIGHT? I didn't want "just this song". I thought that it would be great if I could put together a maxi-single with remixes of the song. I am especially interested in an 'extended 12" dance single' version, a country version, an industrial version, a psuedo-clean version (where all remotely "adult" words or themes are censored out ala-Wal-Mart, ya know, for the kids; but I can make this myself), and then any other versions I could lay my hands on.

ENOUGH WITH THE TALKIN', HOW DOES THIS SIDEFIGHT WORK?
I'm glad you asked! Here are the rulez, yo:
1.) The party is Saturday, May 26th, so Friday night, May 25th is the deadline for songs. 'course, any tracks submitted to me after that date will still be posted here, they just won't make the party.

2.) I don't care if you use ANY of the tracks I've provided below. The only requirement is that the words "Party at KPs" are included lyrically. So, if you really wanted, you could do a whole new song (or just re-rap this one using YOUR skillz), but I'm mostly interested in remixes or remakes. I'd even be interested in a guy and guitar version (if that's possible).

3.) Think I need to re-record any portion? Or do you need me singing/rapping lyrics or sounds (like "yo" or "awww yeah" or whateva) that aren't already here? Just PM me. I'll record the requested bits and post 'em here for all sidefighters.

4.) I would like to have a variety of PARTY AT KP's tracks (as opposed to 20 seven minute dance versions!), but I'm not going to require "calling" a remix. Do what you want, but please sound off here what/if you intend to do a track and what kind of mix, then other sidefighters can know.

5.) Details:
-it's 90 BPM.
-Below are MP3 and WAV tracks.
-I combined all takes from individual tracks (all "main vocals" combined, all "Pink Floyd samples" combined, etc), but if you want just my loops, PM me.
-Due: May 25th, 9 PM CST (absolute latest to make the party)
-Submit by either u/ling to your server and posting a link in this thread, or PM and I'll give you my e-mail address where you can send the track(s) you created.
-I will assemble all the tracks, possibly create cover art (unless someone else wants to; PM if you want), post the files on my site, then provide links here. If the fightmasters permit, I could add or start a new thread for voting through a poll, but only if sidefighters wanted me to.
-EDIT: You do not have to keep the Pink Floyd; that's just there for my mix. If you wanna make up a groove to replace it, that's cool. If you DO wanna use Floyd (whether it be Wall 2, or other song(s)), that's also cool. If ya wanna sample another song, that's cool too. It's all so cool, it might be frozen. :)

6.) The tracks (as WAVs; if a track don't d/l, give it another hour and try again):

I'm interested. The link to the unmastered complete piece doesn't seem to work though.

Sorry 'bout that. I didn't expect anyone to see it until all the files were uploaded! It should be up in about 15 to 20 minutes. I'll double-check it when I come home for lunch.

Thanks for the lightning fast interest!

EDIT: The links all work now. :)

Sure! I had a much better time with that Smilefight remix thing than I thought I would, so I'd love to get my hands dirty on another such project. Nur Ein permitting, of course.

Sounds pretty cool. This is a SF competition, right?
Your lead vox by them self have me in tears. Rap is even funnier with no music. But all together, your stuff sounds pretty good. Good choice on Floyd.

Thanks! Yes, I'm offering a sidefight using my song as a base, but you can do anything you want as long as "Party at KPs" is included lyrically (my vocals or yours; my melody or yours; doesn't matter). :)

I really like hiphop songs mixed with rock and guitar stuff (samples or original), hence my choice of Floyd (besides the fact that KP's favorite band ever is Pink Floyd!).

But, I'd like to know what this would sound like if one of our beat masters (nerdcore or straight-up rap, doesn't matta) dropped the Floyd and just made instrumentation the vocals would go with. Any takers?

BTW, here are the lyrics for my version....

VERSE 1
bake me, drink me, show me a good time
people, party, gunna be bump'n'grindin'
everybody knows,
and if ya don't ya gotta go
bring some party favors,
whatever is your flavor

CHORUS
cause this is the party---
Kelly's party
party at KPs!

VERSE 2
plastered, rasta'd, these are the good times
fire, fire, bonfire make ya higher
neighbors, complainers, say turn that noise down
this party of da century, don't bring us down
cuz everybody, (who?)
that is, who's anybody, (me?)
will show their body, (haw..haw...right!)
at KP's party (kick it!)

CHORUS

BRIDGE
be careful not to slip,
when ya go to take a step,
two fifths of amaretto,
<amaretto>
KP's just started ta go

cause he is "the dude",
he'd never be so rude,
you don't need no aptitude
you just need a party 'tude, party dude

cause this is the party for friends, x3
cause this is the party, KP's party,
cause this is the party, good times party,
cause this is the party, KP's party,
cause this is the party, the party, the party
