I never thought I would do an Album-a-Day project, but turns out I did, and it's also a Christmas album. Nothing fancy, just 26 Christmas songs played the way Christmas has always sounded to me, with record scratches on an old hifi. Available for free on Bandcamp: http://jimofseattle.bandcamp.com/album/ ... -christmas

The title "precipitation" inspired me to make an instrumental, but I'm dumping it here now so as to force myself to come up with something else and not do another instrumental.

I asked folks for suggestions for a song to cover and wound up throwing together this cover of "Invisible Sun" by The Police yesterday afternoon and this evening.

Pretty cool cover. I like the harmonies and whatever reed instrument that is in the back. Melodica? What's real instrument and what's sampled? For example the xylophone sounds?

Thanks! No samples this time, it's all live. I used a Roland SH-101 synth for the bass. The reeds are a melodica and an accordion. I also used acoustic guitar, glockenspiel, tambourine, and snare. The "kick drum" is me hitting my knee with a frisbee and then putting plugins on it (octaver, distortion, etc.). The crazy synth stuff is a Korg Monotron.

Sweet. The accordion was a nice touch.

We should totally do the Police for the next "established band" coverfight. I'd be all over that like white on a goose.

That was actually what I had been thinking about doing next, after we did the Talking Heads cover fight. Nur Ein is about to start in two weeks, though, so I think it may have to wait till after that, at least for me.

Yes, this would obviously be well after Nur Ein. In fact we've kinda been on this yearly sidefight cycle of (roughly) having the GoM in the winter, Nur Ein in the spring, a traditional coverfight in the summer and one for a well-known band in the fall. I'd be OK with keeping on that schedule.

So after Nur Ein ends we can cover each other again, then do Police songs around September or so.

Here is another cover I made this evening, suggested by JB himself. Blame him. :P Don't worry though, it's nothing like the original.

Yeah, you somehow turned it into something I actually want to listen to. What the fuck?

Good job. :)

love your covers Lunkhead. good stuff. The Police one is excellent and you managed to make Billy Ray Cyrus bearable which is quite remarkable.

I got myself a new microphone, so I wanted to record something to show it off. Of course it's mixed too low in this video, but hey, at least I got a decent take of this new song! (I wrote this last December. This video is the first time I've published the song anywhere.)

It is from 2008's Waterfall of Consciousness. I believe that was an AAD:

I also celebrated Glenn's 40th birthday with a cover of one of his songs. I tackled "Georgia's Hand."
