Hah, this is totally off topic, but the first time I attempted to cover a song by another artist, it was a song called "Penguins" by the Jazz Butcher (and it was seriously awful, it was also the first time I recorded myself singing and let anyone hear it, long before I joined SF), and he reviewed the whole tribute album. Here's his review for my song:
Now this here is mental. Bringing the sensibility of the Von Daemmerung Brothers to the Great Antarctic Twelve-Bar, Heuristics Inc. baffle your correspondent with flappy drums and far-off, grumbly singing. At first I couldn't see the virtue in this - now I'm not so sure. The penguin sample at the end may have had something to do with that. Skin up..
I baffle many correspondents!

hey, i just want to say i'm kind of stoked. i just found 2 great tunes i'd never heard of from 2 of the stiffee's lists and i'm gonna work on them this weekend i think. i guess that's part of the joy of doing these kinds of things, so there's some joy in mudville here today.

so at least 2 of you guys should hopefully find a small piece of shite under the virtual tree soon. i should be thanking you 2 guys for turning me on to these cool songs to cover.

We are stiffers.
We feel bad.
We would feel worse if our stiffee wasn't also a stifferee.

We are working on it, Rachael.

Oh, that is going to be seriously awesome and worth the wait. I am looking forward to hearing an Octothorpe take on one of Rachael's choices.

I should mention that Rachael is not to blame for the tardy entry! I have recorded most of her cover, but I still need to add a couple of instruments and tweak the mix a bit. Then Paco Del Stinko will finally have his gift. Paco, I apologize, and I hope you like it when it's done. Hoping to work on it more today, in fact.

ROCK!

Fall Out Boy doesn't pluralize, damnit! :)

You know, about the whole name thing, anyway, since I've been reminded again, they were apparently named after a character on the Simpsons, Fallout Boy. There's no official explanation for the change to three words, as far as I know, but it could have been an intentional move on their part to avoid possible copyright infringement. Because, I mean, it was originally a reference to radiation, not to falling out of line. Then again, a band that asks their audience for suggestions for a band name probably isn't too concerned with such things at all, really.

Um, yeah, I was referring to that post. Trying to explain the situation a little further. :P

Yeah, you probably won't get ahold of them. I guess you could try, anyway. But then their label might sue you or something.

Regardless of whether or not I could hear back, there's no way I'm contacting Nickel Creek.

Good job, Jim! The harmonies are especially good, and as Roymond pointed out, it really is a fun and faithful rendition. Thank you for taking the time to make this!

As far as Rachael's cover for Paco goes, I worked on it more today but it's still not quite ready. Maybe I'll get a chance to work on it again tomorrow.

ROCK!

How'd you like working on this? I'm curious about your experience. Take you long to learn the song? Did you use the chord sheet on my website?

That sure is a fun song. I liked it the first time I heard it, but you did it great Jim. I love those Beatles style vocal changes. Something I just haven't experimented with yet.

A less faithful approach to this one, but it's an old favorite and I was feeling a bit experimental. Heuristics Inc., happy (belated) Gift of Music!

Dear Paco,

Sorry to leave you waiting. Since it was already a late entry, I decided to take a little extra time to try to make it sound better than a rushed entry would have sounded. Hopefully this is worth the wait.
