Help Save Somesongs!

Post by frankie big face »

http://somesongs.com

Okay, some of us are making a concerted effort to bring traffic and vitality back to somesongs. Tuuur is our leader. He is currently rating all the songs and making loads of song comments. I have also seen Jon Eric, Dustface, Hoblit and Obscurity in the vicinity just today.

What can you do to help, you ask? Take 5 minutes from your busy schedule and go over to somesongs right now. Rate a song. Post a comment. While you're there, post a new song if you have one. It doesn't have to be brand new--maybe there's a SongFight song you wrote that didn't get much attention when it was posted here. If you post it now, it will get instant ratings and song comments. We are motivated and we want to show Jeff that we think his site is awesome and deserves a second chance. Come on people!

I'll come back tomorrow with a new "save somesongs" tip. Thanks.

somesongs is more than just some songs. it's somesongs!

it's been awhile since i visited but what jeff has provided over the years is worth supporting. all you new folks that are so eager to get reviews and have your songs heard should go post something over there. you'll get some brutally honest feedback and more listeners, and it's free!

So what you're saying is it's some songs without the space?

I put something there. So, there it is. I'll do some reviews. Or should that be somereviews?

I shall step in to do my part!! I miss Somesongs. I didn't realize I missed it until I just now remembered it.
I've found some really great music there by checking out some of my favorite SongFighters "other stuff." I shall dedicate 1 hour this weekend.

I've been trying to save somesongs since September.

I've never been able to successfully register an account.

I don't remember past messages, but here's what they keep saying now:

your email does not match your email confirmation.

with a red box around it.

which is absolute bullshit. I submitted the form about ten times, and kept checking to make sure they matched each time. Eventually, I tried copying and pasting. There's no way they don't match if it's an exact digital copy. Alas, the same message, no matter what I try.

Help?!

Well first, calm down. There's no need for profanity. Broken code is not bullshit, it's just broken code. I will send a message to Jeff and see if this is easily fixed. In the meantime, you can still listen to songs, you just can't rate them or comment on them or post your own songs or post to the message board or...well, I think that's it.

OR REGISTER.

There was a time that I really liked somesongs - I put up a lot of songs, and reviewed lots too. However, it's as glitchy as myspace these days, which is why I don't spend a lot of time on either anymore.

Oh yeah, it's totally fair to compare somesongs to myspace. They have about the same budget.

This thread is about saving somesongs, not complaining about it, so get on board son or find another thread!

Well, right. It makes it a little hard to get involved.

I don't know anything about code. The thing that it was telling me was not true. Bullshit is just one way to refer to things other than the truth. I know there's never really a need for profanity. I just happen to like it a lot.

I wanted to help, because I'm just that kinda guy. But I too can not register and want to punch someone in the Adams apple and or ear. It tells me my email confirmation doesn't match the one I used. I f**king copied and pasted it for f**k sake. Sorry about the fucking asterisks. :P

FYI, somesongs has been having issues for a while. I think the story was roughly that some kind of upgrade happened on the server due to the hosting provider. A significant amount of the code for the site was not compatible with whatever that upgrade was. At first the whole thing was almost totally broken. Please see this thread:

http://songfight.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4227

For a while Jeff was checking that thread and fixing things. However, there are still problems, obviously, like apparently registering. I got an erroneous e-mail the other day saying that one of my songs had been hidden because the link was 404, which was not true, and I got some error messages when I unhid my song (it worked but I got some errors).

Jeff doesn't have lots of time for fixing this stuff, so we just have to live with it. I would like to suggest again opening up the source code so other people could fix the problems. Jeff, I know you think the code is ugly or whatever, but I don't really think that's going to matter to anybody. I would offer to help myself, but again I don't know PHP.

Somesongs is near and dear to me, but for some reason I stopped hanging out there. (probably the whole 'site is completely fucked' thing)
It was actually a huge motivation for me to record songs, just to put up there. I should get back into it.

I'm writing a new song right now, I'll put it up when it's done.

I drift in and out occasionally and will make a deliberate effort to reamain, um, drifted in. More traffic, in the Somesongs case, means more fun. Hop on board, everybody!

I sent a few e-mails to Jeff last night about the registration thing. Obviously, that is a bit of code that is definitely worth fixing because we have new users right here who want to register and they can't be dealing with all the f**king bullshit that is preventing them from registering. ;) Hopefully, he will fix it.

But in the meantime, here is my Save Somesongs tip of the day:

If you are already a registered somesongs user and you have songs posted on somesongs, go find your highest rated song that doesn't have enough votes (15) to qualify for the Top Songs chart. Post a link to that song in this here thread and watch people (well, registered users) flock to rate and comment on it!

Here's mine: The Thing Most Easily Forgotten

I'll be back tomorrow with another tip!

Pimpin my I'd Be Scared If I Believed for a little extra love (or attention). It wallows in its 14 vote "didn't make the cut" status. If it had one more vote it wouldn't be so close to the edge (or down by the river).

Looks like that would be Soft Orange Glow - a Songfight tune and one that I'll be playing live tomorrow.

Ha ha ha... Frankie you're gonna love this... but I had to go down the list to find a song of mine that made under the highest rating still under 15 votes qualification.

So the <a href="http://www.somesongs.com/song_info.php?select=1220" target="resource window"> 3rd Bum Show theme </a> gets into this thread!

Of course, you hated it! <font size="1"> ... and honestly I can't blame you </font>

I wrote and recorded Applesauce Baptism after the fight deadline but before the songs were posted. It didn't make it into the fight, so I posted it at somesongs.

EDIT: Oh good lord, never mind. The link is broken. I'll update when I get it fixed.
