The Smiths - Side Fight

Post by The Sleestak »

Hey gang. I have been away for a while. I just wanted to throw this out there. Would anyone have interest in this as a side fight? I can't host it or anything but if we get enough interest maybe someone would volunteer.

I'd be very much up for this, and can host it, as long as I am allowed to do 'Bigmouth Strikes Again' :)

I'd be so in. Even though I consider covering the Smiths blasphemous.

Yes, yes yes! Phil and I would be very very interested. I would need seriously think about which song I'd want to cover since they're all so good.

Sure, Sleestak.

The Smiths Cover Side Fight Thing

Albatross "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now"
Anti-M Up for vocals in collab of "Handsome Devil"
Billy's Little Trip "Boy Racer"
Caravan Ray TBA
Charcoal "Barbarism begins At Home"
Furry Pedro "Well I Wonder"
The Hell Yeahs TBC
Hoblit "Girlfriend In A Coma" (?)
Jack Shite "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"
Johnny Cashpoint "Bigmouth Strikes Again"
Kill Me Sarah "I Know It's Over"
Lord of Oats TBA
Melvin "Panic"
Merisan "This Charming Man"
Niveous "This Night Has Opened My Eyes"
Paco Del Stinko "I Want The One I Can't Have" / Up for Collab on "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others"
Phil Redmon. "Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me'
The Sleestak "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore"
Spoons "Is It Really So Strange?"
Jim Tyrell TBA

Challenge: Cover a Smiths song. Morrissey solo material acceptable (if it's not one of the dodgy ones like 'National Front Disco'!) I don't see the point of covering Marr's solo career (like the world needs another Mouse on Mars cover version) but if someone is really keen who am I to say 'no'?

Post: The Song you are doing here, please, so I can update the list as it goes along. Multiple covers are acceptable, but it would be better if more of the songbook was tackled.

Send: your MP3 (only - I'm not faffing about converting things) to johnny_cashpoint@yahoo.co.uk

Deadline: 23rd April. St George's Day, natch. (we can move this date if it is no good for everyone.)

I will host it on my website and set up a voting mechanism that will look crummy but work well enough.

I'd need a lot of time but I could do this. I just didn't want to be first to say so because I'm afraid I'd get picked on , then I'd have to go listen to The Smiths, alone...in the dark while sipping on some whine. (see what I did there?)

Yes, I also appreciate the distant deadline. I did a Smiths cover for the Hell Yeahs a while back, but it had to be rushed out and it ended up pretty thin. Should have been way better than it was. (Got the job done tho. :) )

I'm not committing to a song just yet. There's a few I'd like to do.

Phil says he'd like to do "Last Night I Dreamt that Somebody Loved Me" as a separate entity from the Hell Yeahs.

The Hell Yeahs are still deciding. So excited! :)

I can't miss a Smiths coverfight. I'm in for "This Night Has Opened My Eyes"

So, who dares do "How Soon Is Now"?

The Hell Yeahs might do "William it was Really Nothing" or "Rubber Ring" but we might change our minds... who knows!

Angst in my pants

Post by The Sleestak »

Man I am stoked so many people are on board for this one. I don't think I will do it justice but I have always felt "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" personified that "I wear black on the outside because black is how I feel on the insidde" angst from my high school days.

Since I've not had time to do much except whore my vocal services these days, I'll continue the trend and offer 'em up for anyone who'd like 'em for this project.

Also I would be especially down for "Handsome Devil."

I'll try "I Want The One That I Can't Have". I'd also be willing to try and learn the guitar to "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" if anyone wants to do the rest of it. So many great songs!

I actually tackled Please Please Please etc. a month or two ago to not-totally-embarrassing effect (let me know if anyone wants to hear it).

Song: PAINT A VULGAR PICTURE
