Actually, I didn't know it was you. But back when we were talking about guitar tone, I found out you did some dreamy SonOfSuperCar stuff that I had in my SF playlist favs that come up in the rotation. (dirty Chucks I think is one of them) So not only did I get one of my fav SFers for GOM, Em, but got a pleasant surprise as well. I'm quite happy. ;)

I do find it a little funny that you would recognize hearing that style before, I don't think I've been contributing enough to SF or other things recently that anyone would pick up on my playing. Also I thought Em was going to pick the solo I did that was more sort of like the "Boxes" lead guitar concept, which is a lot of chromatic, angular stuff. Em and I may not have played together in 15 years or so, but back then we played like every day, so it's funny how things work out like that.
Lord knows I love a sharp angle in my music. (Touched by an Angle!) But I picked the solo I did to maintain the dirty 70s rock aesthetic. I still loves me your dreamy, angular guitar solos. They are like the dream of the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

I also feel compelled to point out that Mo did a phenomenal job considering that everything about this recording process was SUB OPTIMAL. (You should hear the weird drum track he had to play to at the time) I really want to go back and fix a million things. But the show has moved on. Next time!

In addition to my "HOLY CRAP" comment, I'd like to mention that the singing on The Real Sign's track is absolutely stellar. M, you have really dialed in your voice, and this was a masterful performance. You brought a level of emotion to the song that really blew me away.

Like irwin mentioned, I would never have thought to translate the main riff to the bass, that was genius. Amazing drums, amazing arrangement, beautifully crafted. This is basically like Dream Theater meets some epic combination of Joan Jett, Pat Benetar, and medieval folk music. Truly extraordinary. I would love to send this on to Richard if you wouldn't mind. I'd love to see if he has a response/reaction.

THANK YOU! Out of all the songs I listed, I am really glad you picked this one.

Hmm, I thought I had written one in my email, but I do not know where to find it. I'm sure it was really witty, or something.

Right, I just meant that you thought the playing sounded familiar. I'm pretty sure it wasn't specifically tone, because when it comes to the Guitar Rig shit I always change everything anyway and never keep settings. I loved playing in sos because at the time I was using one of Stephen's tweed-covered Marshall combos and that thing just had so much attack. And just to be clear, on Dirty Chucks, Dennis is playing the main riff mostly and I'm doing the color, that's the way shit went down in that band since Dennis wrote all the big guitar riffs anyway. On the other hand, they say tone is mostly your hands anyway, right? Whatever, getting gear is fun. Although I'm trying to pare down now. My pedalboard is down to 8 pedals (but it's two types of delay and two types of dirt, so really it's like not that many, right?), but truthfully I find I pretty much could just get by with a fuzz and my El Capistan. I love that echo pedal to death.

Also, I'm still waiting for this dreamy shit to die a cold, miserable death, possibly of rickets.

Oh Mo! Don't you know? Your surliness only makes you that much more dreamy!

Actually, my Caligari dig was an attempt to imply that I consider your guitar work to be something like the opposite of dreamy. SHARP POINTY TEETH!

Rickets is good, but I vote for dropsy!

I've used this moniker in many forums over the course of many years, and I've most frequently seen IGuy or simply IG. Some people have re-extended IG back to Iggy, but I think those people were mostly trying to flirt with me.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to vote for "winners" ?

I'm happy enough to simply donate the $300 to Niv's charity from the collective "Song Fight! Gift of Music"

In the past, I believe we emailed Niv our first, second and third place choices.

And since I'm positive I won't be one of the top three with my name on the charity, I like the collective idea. :)
....but that might take the enjoyment away from the winners.

Separate note. It would be cool to have a public voting poll. But there would have to be 3 threads, one for first, second and third. Also, I don't know if the poll thing here can give enough vote options. It might have to be set up like SF proper for public voting. But that sounds like work, so....I'm guessing no. :D

post them as a second fight, then there can be a public vote. Unless that's to much work. It's easy to come up with ideas when you know nothing of webbery.

Also, Mikelamb: Sorry I haven't been in IRC too much lately. Really glad to hear you like the track so much. The pick was M's, and it took her all of 5 seconds to decide which song should be "progged".
Irwin: I'd sell my soul to jesus to program drums like signboy.

We never did come to a final conclusion about the GOM.

I say that we send the charity money in the name of "Song Fight! Gift of Music" as this was an amazing year with great songs and no stiffs. Good job everyone.

If people want a winner....nyah, not this year. Spirit of good will and what not. Everyone wins, prayer for pancakes style.
