Wow. This guy makes me rethink what I used to consider masterful storytelling. I just started the third book. Sleep deprivation set in during the first book. House hasn't been cleaned in over a week. Wife is living on ramen as I neglect all my usual duties. Truck won't start. Don't care.

That is a great feeling, when a book can keep you turning pages to the point of wanting to ignore everything else. Quite an endorsement.

The best part is that it's quite political. It involves kingdoms being overthrown, and a mess of usurpers rising up. I usually care so little for this kind of thing that I couldn't even finish the third Game of Thrones book. Sanderson has managed to make the scope of these novels quite personal, while deftly sidestepping all the fantasy cliches that trap most authors.

[EDIT] Finished. Epic. I am hesitant to pick up another book right away, for fear that anything will seem bland now.
