Re: How did you find out about Song Fight?
Metro Boston (Cambridge). I grew up in Boston proper (East Boston). Do you make it to the city often? I like doing open mics once in a while. Wouldn't mind grabbing a beer at one some time. Well, not actually a beer, cause I'm eating gluten free, but ya know, something intoxicating!

Re: How did you find out about Song Fight?
I don't go in regularly, but love it. Train station right down the road from me. PM me some time when you play and if all lines up well, you can watch me drink a beer.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

I found out about Song Fight when I looked up MC Frontalot on Wikipedia after hearing him rap when watching random rap music videos on YouTube.

Re: How did you find out about Song Fight?
A friend and a longtime Songfight lurker told me about it. He's still lurking for all I know. I'm not aware that he has a username; my guess is he does and just never posts, but who knows. His wife's a songfighter, too, if not actively so at the moment.
He's probably reading this. What's up, man! Nice to see you! How's the kid?

Caravan Ray introduced me to the idea after kicking around at the same open mics for a couple of years.

OH!!! You are probably the person he was referring to then when he was in Portland and said he'd been talking about Song Fight to someone he'd met at the open mics! The light just clicked on-DUHHH. Yes. Welcome to Song Fight. Please continue the awesome.PepperJane wrote:Caravan Ray introduced me to the idea after kicking around at the same open mics for a couple of years.

Your Safe Harbor is fuckin' rad. You're like Erin McKeown and Joni Mitchell with a tiiiiiny dash of Courtney Barnett probably just because of your nationality... but still. (I like all three very much.)PepperJane wrote:Caravan Ray introduced me to the idea after kicking around at the same open mics for a couple of years.

Yes - I believe I did refer to Pepper Jane to you and the possible similarities in the PJ/DJRD stylesRangerDenni wrote:OH!!! Aww you guys... here I was expecting to only be inundated with cultivatingly scathing criticism at every turn... I can't wait but, er, gracias, tusind tak
Stoked to be involved here and have something to channel my brain soup into or around each week. I've got my House Red in development but got nothin on Eggshells at this stage.
Oh. That just gave me an idea
On the subwoah JUST this morning (well of course it was my 1st subway ride ever in the Americas) I was thinking about hoping to bump into Neo on said transportation sometime. Aah I can dream. Matrix (1) is still my favourite all-time movie. Followed closely by teenage-dreamhusband (once I got over TMNT infatuation with same-name) Leo's 'Inception'.Billy wrote:Yeah, pretty 'woah'.josh wrote:In the wordsof Neo, "Woah".
Thanks JB, I didn't know who E McK was but now I do and that's quite a grand bunch to be held up against. In fact I'm considering covering Joni's Both Sides Now for the final, hidden, track on my double debut album (some say I think *too* much. If anyone wants to collab that'd be grand. Perhaps we could manage it in NYC in July. Almost awkwardly and completely unintentionally I guess my Teeth Marks would totally confirm the CB likeness :-pjb wrote: You're like Erin McKeown and Joni Mitchell with a tiiiiiny dash of Courtney Barnett probably just because of your nationality... but still. Re: How did you find out about Song Fight?
I think it was SpinTown’s blog when he was doing reviews in 2009. We saw DJ Ranger Den and Christopher Cogott in Nur Ein and tried it for #6. Now we’re tied for most years attempting to get past a few rounds.
We finally put in for one songfight years ago. We should do another one.

Re: How did you find out about Song Fight?
I was reading a Hacker News thread in 2018 about niche communities (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17690852) where songfight was mentioned. ~1 year later I entered a song. Another ~1 year later and I worked up the courage to enter more.

Re: How did you find out about Song Fight?
I became friends with Lunkhead in real life through his at-the-time roommate's girlfriend I was friends with back in Boston. I guested on a BSS track or two some years later without ever knowing what SF even was. Years later (2019) I finally started playing more regularly with BSS and even started submitting solo songs.

Re: How did you find out about Song Fight?
I searched for songwriting and found FAWM. I'm pretty sure SF was mentioned during my first FAWM and I ignored it for a year or so. But I was searching for other TiSCs (Timed Songwriting Challenges) so I'm not completely sure on the timing or the where. I know it took me a while before taking the plunge. But I got bored after my second FAWM and joined up.

Re: How did you find out about Song Fight?
I listened to Jonathan Mann’s podcast “As It Happens”, which chronicles his songwriting process. For one of the episodes, he composed a SF entry. By the by, Mann has written a song every day since 2009, so I recommend him as someone to follow for inspiration.

Re: How did you find out about Song Fight?
Through Jonathan Mann (songadaymann). We have a mutual friend and realized we grew up two towns over in VT. I got in touch to tell him his "Incoming chairman Senate Budget Committee" song was great, and he recommended Songfight for all us amateurs out here.
