DeepOrb on SongFight

Post by claytantor »

Hey Songfighters,

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Clay and I know some people on SongFight already, and I think this community is really great. That's why I am hopeful that I can introduce a project I am working on here and hopefully, it will get some needed constructive feedback.

Basically, I am training RNN based deep learning systems to generate music. Its a personal project, not a startup or something that is intended to "take over the world" just an idea I had to make a generative internet radio station that is free to listen to, and hopefully one day participate in.

Right now the music sounds a little kooky, which I kinda like. None of this is ready to bring here yet for fights, I am working on how to generate lyrics which I believe is essential to meet the spirit of SongFight, so I will just participate as a community member till I can join in on the fights.

If you want to learn a little more about me...

It seems to be pretty good at generating beats right now. Otherwise it just comes across as being very aleatoric. What's your training set?

I really don't know, I have about 130K midis in a repo and then I do sampling out of that using genre info from the million song dataset. http://millionsongdataset.com/pages/getting-dataset/ each instrument is stripped out and training is built for each instrument type separately, so the training is likely mixed across dozens of bands.

aleatoric
TIL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleatoric_music
Aleatoric music (also aleatory music or chance music; from the Latin word alea, meaning "dice") is music in which some element of the composition is left to chance, and/or some primary element of a composed work's realization is left to the determination of its performer(s). The term is most often associated with procedures in which the chance element involves a relatively limited number of possibilities.
