Yep, the Purple Yays got me groovin'. The guitar is cool. I love the little crunchy guitar bits. Good job guys.

But I need to ask. The "for you" parts, was that inspired by that you tube video, "shoes"?

Sausage Boy: Excellent driving intro, and this track reminds me so much of the Worm Quartet that Shoebox would be proud, I like the way you start to crack up mid way through the track, second half of the track goes a bit PIL, mayb slightly overlong, but I love the reference to small plastic men and table top war, contains many cool parts that are slightly better than the whole! 7/10

Purple Yays: Hmm! Funky Indie Pop, instrumentation is great, vocals are cool, though I'm really hoping there's a breakdown soon, sounds a little like a Justin Timberlake outtake, but definately has a Princey feel, maybe just a little laid back for my tastes, It's just come to me, this really needs a rap section around 2:15 or even a bit of a scat, too many cool parts, but lacking a touch of substance somewhere! 8/10

Wages: Brilliant echoey effect on the vocal, such a pleasing feel to this track, you do spurned emotion rather well, much better than your more up tempo numbers, I'd like another 20 to 30 seconds of this, feel it stops rather short, but generally great work with excellent lyrics! 9/10

spOOn: Hey that's not Cynthia and it sounds like I'm singing through my nose, (onset of cold alert!), I actually like this (wouldn't have submitted if I didn't I guess), feel I've taken the the for you theme into a different sphere, though I do like songs about the end of the world... go figure! on reflection it sounds a little empty! and is a touch long! 7/10

Timmy the Tapeworm: Almost expect the intro to the 'A-Team' nice sonic assault goes on way too long, and I don't get the title relevance, but what the hey! 5/10

Chopped Liver Meat God: Excellent tone on that guitar, the guitar line is damned near perfect, but there's little else here to review, I'd love this to go on a lot lot longer. 6/10

BLT (ft. Sockpuppet): Industrial Rock in a NIN vein this works on almost every level, the instrumentation is great, and has me reaching for the volume up knob, this is an almost pefect unison of two masters of there chosen genres, I'm also loving the sung vocals counterpointed with the whispered vocal line behind, some really professional touches here... good work! 9/10

Listening to Wages and BLT/Sockpuppet again I'm going to choose Wages mainly because of the lyrics and the fact that tis suddenly reminds me of Fleetwood Mac, a female vocalist doubling up on the chorus would make this perfect. The BLT/Sockpuppet track is as near to goodness as your gonna get instrumentally, but fails marginally in the vocal department (compared to wages I mean)
These two are head and shoulders above the rest! and I found it a tough choice.

Sausage Boy - good stuff. Point made at a minute, would have been a great burst of bile, althought that said I do like the bass breakdown. I very much like the gaspy out of breath moments and repeated reference to 'tabletop war' - suitably random. I thought it said 'the only box I want contains more poo'.

Purple Yays - Sleazy porn-film groove and nice searing guitar work for mr redmon. i have to say, as much as I like all the voices on this, Heather sounds sooooo sexy and cool, I find myself secretly wanting her to sing all the verses. is that greedy of me? Probably! The bass could stand with a tad more dominant, to give it a more dubby feel, which it seems to be verring towards, but that's really just looking for things to say. Good good good.

Wages - I think you are slowly winning me round - in this 'project' each song of yours I have heard I have liked more than the last. this has a lovely wistfulness about it, and I like the simple effective riff. This song wouldn't benefit from a heavier arrangement, maybe a little bit of piano plinking away in the later half of the song at most.

Spoon - nice creepy tribal programming. The vocal, cold notwithstanding, is fine, and charming. I would like to hear you & Sausage Boy in tandem on one of these. You seem to be coming towards the same point from different places .... I find myself what it would sound like with Cynthia backing you up in the chorus just to make it stand out. A good worthy sentiment, but I can't hear the words well enough to know if they are as earnest as I fear they might be :) Also a little long, i think. By about 30 seocnds or so.

Timmy - Your fly is undone.

CLMG - Nice start! is that you harmonizing with yourself? If so you have a very nice high tone to your voice. Nice lead guitar work, although it noodles on when it should be effecient over four bars then back into the vocal. This is a really nice idea for a song but it meanders without much focus past the first verse. I would like to hear it developed up, definitely.

BLT / Sockpuppet - Hell yeah, that grooves along very sweetly. That phat wobbly bass synth thing is truly awesome. The chorus is lacking a bit of memorability - everything else is so good, the glitchy percussion and synths, the guitar riffing, the structure, but I just wish that it had a harmonic element to it that I could latch onto. (i.e.my favourite NIN song is 'Wish' - and that's half and half screech-a-thon and melody)

I am torn between Purple Yays and BLT / Sockpuppet. It might come down to voting for the song that will make the best start to 'my' compilation. There's very little else in terms of quality between 'em.

EDIT: I have decided to go for BLT/Sockpuppet purely because I am voting for Hell Yeahs and jack elsewhere ...

Thanks J, I was starting to get nervous that I may have veered this dingy into the Bermuda Triangle. But Fluffy seemed to be confident all the way through, and he really knows his synth placement. *high fives Fluf* yay, we got one!

Sausage Boy - More noise from this cocksucker!?

Purple Yays - I love the porn vibe too. But I love a bit of wah guitar. Some of the "For you" chorus could be delivered with a bit more gusto, though, methinks.

Wages - Looks like we had the same kind of idea, though went in completely opposite directions in both content and style.

Spoon - The beat is cool, and i like the breaks that happen. I have no idea what this song is about, but i get references to planets or something. Kooky.

Timmy - Now, I am all for, you know, doing your own thing, as anyone here will tell you. I am hardly the pot that should be calling the kettle black. But even given your explanation about why you did this, I still can't figure how you got to... this. Does that makes sense? What I really want to know is, can you refund me the 2:22 of my life i just lost?

CLMG - Excellently short and sweet. Very nice and gentle. It makes me think of streams and butterflys.

BLT / Sockpuppet - New SF super group! This is clearly my pick. The into reminds me of a TISM song, I Go Off. Its nice to see you whoring yourself around, BLT

Spoon - Oh! Is it about the human race?

Sausage Boy - You have always had that unique delivery, which in a time where everything has been done, it's nice to hear, I like that. Cool music, as usual.
My only gripe is that I want the instruments to be bolder and more separated. I'm not sure if this is a compression issue or a master channel plug in, or whatever. Also, the vox don't seem on time, but that may be part of your unique vibe. But I do like the creative aspect of this song. Good job.

The Purple Yays - There are two types of music I love, heavy guitar and drum, and funky R&B. This song is funky for sure. I really enjoyed the collaboration of SFers on this one. The guitar is the highlight for me, I love it.
I think the mix is a tad sterile. It may be the drum machine that gives me that, not sure. The nice thing is Heathers vox warm it back up. So the song kind of goes cold and warm all the way through. Over all, the funkiness of this song draws me in, I like it. Good job guys and girl.

Wages
- Very nice song. Wonderful guitar meshing. I love the vocal tone and melody. Great over all vibe. This song sounds like an unplugged version of a very heavy rock song. Each time I listen, about a third in to the song, I start tapping on my desk with a snare build and crash into a full blown drum beat, lol.
The guitar is a touch off time in spots, but that doesn't hurt the song. I like this song. Good work Phil. I look forward to working with you again sometime.

Nigel (Sp00n) Clements - I've always said, you are my favorite electronica guy on SF. You always have an interesting arrangement to your songs. You lay things out in a way that my brain doesn't think, but it always sound right. Very dynamic separation of the instruments, which is one of the benefits of synth. Plus you always mix good and you don't over process the final mix, so it always plays well on about any device I listen through. Good job as always.

Timmy the Tapeworm - I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's ass, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it. ~Tommy Boy. If you say this is good, I'll believe you. I never question anything that someone believes in, and gives them inspiration, because it's their business. More power to you.

Chopped Liver Meat God - This really has a wonderful old school Kinks vibe to it. I really like the vocal treatment here. Nice guitar, good mix. Smooth flow. Nice addition of the tambourine. I personally need some form of percussion with my guy/girl and guitar, so the tamborine was a nice touch. Good song, I like it.

Billy's Little Trip featuring Sockpuppet - I don't generally review myself, but being that this is a collaboration, I'd like to mention my thoughts of working with my partner on this song. First off, it was fun to work with Fluffy. He is a very matter of fact guy and has a good ear. One of the reasons that I like to collab, is that I experience different ways of seeing/hearing things, so I come away with a new level of thinking. I can honestly say that I did come away from this collab with added vision.
Overall, I like how it came out. I don't think that we could have done anything more to make this song any better, shy of hiring professionals. We used every bit of the 1 month to re-work and perfect the song to the best of "our" ability. Sure, we could keep on adding, mixing and changing, but at some point, one has to say, "I'm ok with this, that's a wrap, put it in the can". In this case, it was about 30 minutes before the cut off deadline, LOL.

"For You" Reviews

Sausage Boy: Startlingly loud at the start. The style is interesting like some kind of punk version of Devo. After a while it begins to wear thin though. The In-Love half is odd and disconnected.

Purple Yays: Dammit, I'm gonna be singing this all week. Nice guitar work sprinkled all over this song. There's also a few guitar flubbs in there too but they are much less frequent and don't deter too much. It's a good tune. Now I wanna hear Heather cover Garbage's "No. 1 Crush". That would be money.

Wages: A decent guy and guitar song. The heavy reverb is a surprisingly welcomed touch. Not a lot I can say about this one other than it's decent.

sp00n: Waging war against the different skins. Ugh, I dislike that lyric. The verses aren't very good, especially with the plodding drumfill. But I love the chorus. The vocals are week as sometimes it hits some sour votes. Some tightening can make this a pretty good song. Right now, it's potential.

Timmy the Tapeworm: Wow, that makes cool designs on my jukebox display. As a noise track, it's got the noise part but it needs far less repetition to be of worth.

Chopped Liver Meat God: Not what I expected from that name. It's a nice little ditty with some good guitar work but it's very short and the vocal part is completely forgettable. I wanna hear what else you can do because there is a lot of potential here.

BLT f/ Sockpuppet: An interesting blend of calssic BLT ballsy rock with Sockpuppet electronica. It's got a very good groove to it and I like the lyrical content. Great work.

The vote goes to BLT f/ Sockpuppet.

Seems to be some confusion regarding my lyrics to this one, so here they are to clear up any misunderstanding...

As the bastard future
Descends upon us
We look to the sky's
And say why
This planet is heaving
This planet is wheezing
This planet is going
To die

We waste out time
Waging wars
Against those of a
Different skin
We should just
Spend our time
Becoming aware
Of the monster that dwells within

This planets for you
So take care of what you do
This planets for you
So don't subjugate the truth
This planets for you
And you know that pretty soon
There will be no more
Planet left for you

Our race has evolved
Faster than
The
Divine plan
Our race has devolved
Into no
More than a
Lust for land

The toll of the bell
Is becoming
A feature of
Our life
It's clanging chime
A precursor
To the end
Of all life

This planets for you
So take care of what you do
This planets for you
So don't subjugate the truth
This planets for you
And you know that pretty soon
There will be no more
Planet left for you

<BREAK>

This planets for you
So take care of what you do
This planets for you
So don't subjugate the truth
This planets for you
And you know that pretty soon
There will be no more
Planet
This planets for you
So take care of what you do
This planets for you
So don't subjugate the truth
This planets for you
And you know that pretty soon
There will be no more
Planet left for you

As the bastard future

I'd just like to say that BLT did all the hard work. I just filled in a few gaps where I heard them, and I am enormously happy with how the track came out.

Sausage Boy - Let's hear it for violent rhythms. Reminds me of My Sharona/Beginning of the End, but more unrelenting than either of those. Strange, of course, but a nice effort. If this had been submitted for In Love instead of For You, I might have voted for this, just for standing out from the others, since I had a hard time deciding. Meh. Yeah, this is crazy. But charming, in a disturbing fashion.

The Purple Yays - That lead guitar sounds a little out of place, maybe like a rodeo clown in a china shop, but eh, I suppose it works well enough. It's just a bit violent for the sex groove going on, especially in the second verse, when it just pounds hard and wails. But then, I guess some people like it rough. This was pretty enjoyable. But I think this takes second place for this title.

Wages - Um, this is okay. I can't sustain this much longer, sorry. This is good, but I'm not going to vote for it. You've gotten too many of those from me already. And I mean, you can only do so much with your face and your guitar.

Sp00n - This beat is great, but the vocal is a bit disconnected, eh? I think I said the same thing about both your other entries. It might be a bit less so, here. In fact, this is probably the best of all your entries. But the vocals still cause some problems. I would really like this quite a lot with a better performance in that department.

Chopped Liver Meat God - I was taking a cue from Prince, here, in trying to make a piece that would introduce the album, but wouldn't really stand up too well on its own, like Prince's title track, Pink Floyd's "Speak To Me", or perhaps AFI's Prelude 12/21. Bad idea, considering this format, I guess. It sets a nice mood for the album, I think. Which is promptly crushed by the bleakness of the second track, where I suppose I took another cue from Prince, in terms of the general idea of steering toward the ditch.

BLT and that puppet guy - This is nice. This wins. I'm voting for this. It's great. The only thing that disagrees with me is the verse vocals. They should be breathier and softer, and not so high. More Trent Reznor, and less Billy Corgan or whoever that is. Chorus vocals are great. But I think you'd help the song's dynamics out if the verse contrasted a little more, with a more soft-spoken delivery. Put the tracks up somewhere, and I'll totally record over it myself to show you what I mean. You know, actually, this would be a nice song to remix. Yeah, somebody, hook a brother up with some tracks, man.

Yeah BLT takes it with a nearly pro-sounding recording of something that also happens to be the best song. Weeeeeeeeeeee done yay.
