How does the live fight title work? Do we agree on it and tell you? Or just post it here? When?
Let Lunkhead know privately. He will keep it a secret until it is posted to the site.

Also we'll need an MC. If Spud is present, he MCs, but if he's not, then next in line would be one of the hosts. If none of the hostst want to do it, one of the attendees usually volunteers.

Last I was aware, Spud wasn't planning on coming.

I'd be happy to MC if none of the other hosts want to.

I don't really want to MC, so that works for me :)

What about artwork? Usually we have a poster graphic.

Yes-- I started working on a poster yesterday, but haven't gotten too far yet. If anyone else wants to do it, let me know, otherwise I'll continue later...

p.s. In other important Madison-related music news, I was looking up Metallica's "Of Wolf and Man" today for reasons and found out that it is the only human music tamarin monkeys like, and this was discovered by a researcher at UW-Madison

The only music that the researchers found that they liked, anyway. I wonder how they'd react to Octothorpe.
Indeed, the monkey music sounds shrill and unpleasant to human ears
Okay, or Anna-Lisa Ingemansson.

If you are starting to plan who plays when, I'd like to request that I have a Saturday night spot. I don't arrive until the afternoon on Friday and would like to be able to rehearse before I play. Should be there in time for dinner at the Rigby. Hopefully, everyone is planning on that as well.

OK, any other preferences on who plays when?

Also, Micah, you mentioned earlier you might not be able to make it both nights and/or later in the evening. How is that situation looking?

Also also: there was some mention of people maybe needing practice space facilities. Who needs what, and when?

If Micah can only make it one night, could the Merisan set be the night he can make it? We'd talked about having him play accordion on one our songs.

Also if possible I'd like to play my Lunkhead set on whichever night Merisan is NOT playing.

And I'll be backing up Ken and Mike in their sets, so it would be awesome if those could be different nights. But that's all just nice-to-have stuff, not deal breakers by any means.

I squiggled my schedule around a bit, and I will be at both sets!

I was asked by Lunkhead to state my preference here for night of performance. I don't really have a preference. I think I'm just doing a solo acoustic thing so anytime is fine.

@Lunkhead OK!
@Micah Awesome. Glad to hear you can make it to both sets!
@Frankie Noted! Thanks for your flexibility.

My preference is Saturday, for rehearsal reasons. Bill me as Grumpy Mike and the Curmudgeons. 8-)

OK this is sort of like one of those logic puzzles with the fox and the geese and the boat, and it turned out to be impossible to accommodate every request, but here's what I have as a tentative listing for each night (in no particular order):

Friday:
  • Frankie
  • Lunkhead
  • owl
  • Add/Charm Offensive
  • Micah Sommersmith
Saturday:
  • Grumpy Mike and the Curmudgeons
  • Merisan
  • Pigfarmer Jr.
  • Ken
  • fluffy
  • Live fight
If you have issues with any of this, please let me know! If the live fight is typically a bit longer then we could move one act from Saturday back to Friday. But I figured more people would be traveling on Friday, and tired.

Also! I'm taking the day off on Friday, and would be happy to hang out/take people around, or just chill by myself doing normal life things. Same with Saturday. When are people arriving? Who is renting a car? Does anyone need a ride to their accommodations? Does anyone want to be entertained? With the Crossfit thing in town, we might want to make reservations for restaurants, although I think at the Rigby we should be good.

Some suggested activities. I don't know what people are interested in doing, see my roundup linked in the first post here... we could do museums, the zoo, etc. People who are into "being prepared" and "rehearsing" and dumb things like that might also want to fit that time in there somewhere. I haven't heard from anyone who needs rehearsal space so I have not looked into that.

Friday:
  • Go see Grumpy Mike at work? (Can this happen over the weekend for folks who are interested, or does it have to be a weekday? Just worried about traffic)
  • Drinks at the Edgewater maybe? They are doing some kind of bluegrass thing. They have great lakefront views.
  • Dinner at the Rigby before the show. Friday night is fish fry day in Wisconsin! We should also get some deep-fried cheese curds into everyone at some point over the weekend.
Saturday:
  • Farmer's market (AM only)
  • Brunch? Heritage or Cooper's are good, on or near the square, and take reservations.
  • Go to the roof of the Capitol building
  • Wander down State Street
  • Drinks on the Union Terrace
  • Walk around campus a little
  • Mustard Museum? I think Ken said he was interested, and this is National Mustard Day and you can get this mustard-flavored ice cream, which makes me want to ralph just thinking about it, but different strokes for different folks. (This is on the other side of town from all the suggestions above FYI. Over near Grumpy Mike's house)
  • Biking? Boating? Nature walk at the Arboretum or Picnic Point? The city just put in a new fleet of e-bikes for rental.
  • Dinner somewhere that's not the Rigby? Maybe a supper club? Or just some random restaurant. I like Alchemy and Monsoon Siam.

Thanks Owl!

Did you check with the Rigby to see if we can leave everything set up from Friday to Saturday? Some clubs don't want this responsibility or need the space during the day. Would leaving any of the gear there Friday make rehearsing on Saturday difficult?

ken, I already sent a message to them about it to see if we can leave the gear there overnight (I would definitely rather not have to load everything out and back in again!) but haven't heard back. I don't know what anyone's plans or ideas are for practicing on Saturday or how this will affect it.

Just a reminder as to who's signed up for which gear responsibilities:

owl:
  • Electric guitar #1--Squier Telecaster
  • Guitar amp #1--Fender Mustang III, note this is a modeling amp with various effects, I was not planning to bring pedals. It has a tuner built in.
  • Acoustic guitar with pickup--Alvarez RF26CE. Also has a tuner built in.
  • Acoustic guitar amp--Fishman Loudbox Artist--2 inputs, includes reverb, delay, echo, slap echo, chorus, flanger effects
  • Keyboard--Roland Juno-DI
  • Keyboard stand
  • Capos
  • Music stands
  • Piano bench
  • 1/8" to 1/4" adapter
  • All appropriate cables
I would definitely love to have help loading in and out, btw, nothing is super heavy but it's going to be a pain to carry all this stuff. (Or if any of the other hosts wants to volunteer to bring some of the fiddly stuff towards the end of the list, like the piano bench and music stands...)

Grumpy Mike:
  • Drums
  • Electric guitar #2 (and tuner?)
  • Guitar amp #2
  • All appropriate cables
Micah Sommersmith:
  • Bass
  • Bass amp
  • All appropriate cables
The venue:
  • PA
  • Mics and stands
Attendees, if anyone has a need for anything else gear-wise, speak now (or between now and August 2) or forever hold your peace!

Whoa, frank is a tough act to follow. Frank, if you want to trade slots, I'd be happy to go first and get my solo set over with and warm up the crowd for you. :)

The lists above were in no particular order for each night. Anyone playing with drums should probably go after anyone solo IMHO, so we should rearrange them. (Not 100% sure who has what lineups though) How's this?

Friday:
  • Lunkhead
  • Micah Sommersmith
  • Add/Charm Offensive
  • Frankie
  • owl
Saturday:
  • Pigfarmer Jr.
  • ken
  • Merisan
  • fluffy
  • Grumpy Mike and the Curmudgeons
  • Live fight
