Songfight Live 2022 IRL Interest Poll

Post by ken »

Hi All,
Some folks have been talking about an in person SFL this year. Before anyone starts planning an event, it seemed prudent to gauge interest. Please answer the poll question below and then feel free to elaborate in the thread.
Thanks!
Ken

I’m “interested but a little wary” and for me it depends primarily on where in the country it takes place (I.e. travel distance) and how crowded the venue might be.

Oh yeah, I would definitely prefer an outdoors venue if possible.

Very in, with the understanding that travelling from my new home in Maine will be a potential hurdle.

I answered "Probably not at this time." mainly due to the fact that I don't think I'll even be in the country when this is probably going to take place... though if I didn't already have plans I'd probably vote "Interested, but still a little wary." depending on the location etc... like fluffy mentioned.

Oh yeah that too, definitely. I wonder if the Capitol Hill amphitheater will be ready by then (last I was aware it's on hold because of a local concrete workers strike).

I think we’re in but in outdoor venues or places with big garage doors/excellent ventilation. Thanks!

Not to volunteer anyone, but the Denver location was outdoors, right? How are they doing as far as availability/possibility? It looked lovely from the stream and I'd love to be able to attend a show there and I regret having to miss that one in particular.

Yes! Black Shirt Brewing was the second day and it was great. Professional sound, full menu, yadda yadda. I don’t think we’d be able to do two days, but could definitely do one there.

I’m a hard no because of the whole Australia thing.

Would love to be involved in a remote/prerecorded way if possible.

I think there is very likely to still be an online component of Song Fight Live even if there is also some in-person component. Everybody made such great stuff for the live streams the last couple years and they seemed to go over really well, and it's great to have a way for more folks to be involved and spectate. (We'd also try to live stream an in-person show if one were to happen but that's likely to be a "set it and forget it" type of thing somebody gets going at the beginning of the show and leaves on till the end, nothing fancy.)

After every online not-live show we always talk about how much it'd be awesome if we had more frequent not-live shows throughout the year and I still think that'd be a good idea. Just make it a regular-ish supplement to the annual cadence of things rather than waiting for the time of year that we'd normally be gathering in person.

It'd be important to keep them small and optional, though, the last thing I want is for people to get burned out on video production. Also encourage folks to do new things each time, like I can only do "No Brakes" so many times in this format before it gets really old

I'm interested in a live show because putting my dumb videos together is a ton of effort. On the other hand, a live show strips me of all of my post-production tricks that make me sound less like shit. A real conundrum.

yeah I like the live shows for "fucking around and finding out" and the videos for "here is what I could sound like if I had an actual band that actually has time to practice"

The wife and I are up for in person. The timing *should* be good, but she has several trips planned already this year, so the only hold up might be that she's already busy.

Side note, if anyone wants to crash Wages Brewery, let me know. I'm sure it'll be easier for me to get there than most.

I would try and find a way to participate to some degree if Atlanta wound up being a venue. I can't really host a lot of people or travel very far because young children.

I like the idea of a songfight live but I'm not sure geography and travel logistics are in my favor at this point in my life.

I will try my best to attend an in-person 2022 SFL if one happens. I highly recommend them, whether you're going to perform or not (though you absolutely should perform).

Also the online component is wonderful and I second fluffy's call for more frequent not-live shows throughout the year.* I like to be forced to make new music videos (if I don't have a deadline I won't do any), and I loved to see the variety that sprang out of the 2020 & 2021 SFLs. Also in general I think videos are a more appealing way to introduce anyone to your music so it's nice to have more of them.

*Though I'm essentially a computer novice so of course I wouldn't be able to help much with not-live SFL logistics, so yeah I get it, it's easy for me to say I want more online SFLs. -jrk

We should be ok to travel just now, but yes …USA would be a pretty high risk destination to get home from if things change.
