SF! Live 2011: Stuff to do in NYC

Post by Lunkhead »

I figured it might be nice to move the talk about other NYC activities into dedicated thread. Erin and I want to try to go to a Jimmy Fallon taping. Many other shows are taped in NYC in case folks want to coordinate other outings, to the Daily Show, Letterman, etc. etc.

I think someone in the main SF! Live thread mentioned a baseball game?

Okay baseball people. Let's organize a trip to the Bronx to see the Yankees. My good friend Sheaill is traveling all the way from Britain where they do not have our national pastime so we have a responsibility to get him to the House (next door to the house) That Ruth Built.

My questions are as follows:

1) Friday night at 7:05 or Saturday at 1:05?
2) How much do we want to spend on tickets?
3) Who's in?

Once I get a count, I'll start scouring StubHub or the like for tickets in our price range. Even if you're not a huge baseball fan, you will be impressed with the new Yankee Stadium and it shoud be a good game (they are playing the surprisingly successful Cleveland Indians).

Try to let me know by early next week. You can post here or PM me.

I'm just looking forward to the great food scene again. It's been a long time since I've had proper New York style pizza, or gone to one of the many awesome burger places. (I occasionally went to the original Shake Shack before it apparently became the most popular place on the planet. Personally I didn't think it was all that special though.)

Ditto. I always get a shwarma... We don't have good shwarma in Virginia.

I'm getting a shwarma just thinking about the food. Maybe I'll do a jamie oliver and get you all to swap your burgers for a stick of celery.

My preference for the rounders game would be the saturday avo, thus freeing up friday night for getting battered in the town centre.

So it's just me and Sheaill for the ballgame? That's fine--just don't want to leave anyone out. Last call!

Ooh, glad I saw this. My wife and I will go with. We don't have a preference about which game. Fair warning, though—she's a native Clevelander.

Let me know how much we owe you, and I'll bring an appropriate amount of cash.

Ah, shit. I should go see them while I'm there if it isn't too late.

I'll just post here so other know the scoop. Sheail says he prefers Saturday afternoon and that's fine with me. The Yankees are playing the Indians, so there should be plenty of tickets available despite the Indians' unexpected success this year. I'll try to get tickets in the $30-40 range if that's cool with everyone.

There are some crazy ass guitars on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. "This exhibition examines the work of three remarkable craftsmen from this heritage—John D'Angelico, James D'Aquisto, and John Monteleone—their place in the extended context of Italian and Italian American instrument making."

How do you even play that thing? I imagine that the drone strings are tuned to an open chord and then you get a nice sitar-y effect or something, but... weeeeeeeeird.

But hell yes, FIELD TRIP. I love me some MoMA.

That isn't at MoMA, but there are some great things to see there, as well. But Picasso's guitars at MoMA is ending June 6th:

As always I need to read the whole post. I've never been to the met so I am up for that too.

Do cubist guitars play hyperchords?
