Song Fight! Live 2013 Location Brainstorming

Post by Lunkhead »

What's going on with Song Fight! Live 2013? It's "only" 4-5 months away now. Has a location been chosen? If not, anybody volunteering to host?

It has been five years since Atlanta claimed the title of "Most Debauched Song Fight Live". Dorie and I would be happy to have you all visit again.

Throwing Atlanta into the ring!

I raised the idea of a NH/VT event (Live Green or Die) with Jim, but not sure it's his favorite choice. I'd love to host rehearsals and have many in the barn and tents on the farm.

I believe Austin was one of the venues being discussed in person at the last SFL. I'd be happy to help organize it, even if me playing it is kind of iffy.

Atlanta and New England are also both great ideas, too. I'll be happy to come wherever it may be.

In the spirit of Istanbul, who seem to bid for the Olympics every year then get thrown out at the first vote - I nominate Brisbane.

As a New Englander, I love the Live Green or Die! (GREAT title!) idea. But like Madison last year, as someone argued, it may prove difficult with logistics.

Yeah, I'm thinkng a SF Presents weekend or something may be more appropriate.

So, sounds like serious offers from:

JB - Atlanta
Generic - Austin

Potential offers from:

Roy/Jim - VT/NH
Niv - NYC/Brooklyn

Joke offers from:

Ray - Brisbane

I just bought tickets to see the Postal Service on July 26th, so I'd just like to add that Erin and I would prefer that SF!L not be that weekend. ;)

Man, I'd go to Brisbane for SFL.

I'd also go anywhere else.

I'm up for whatever too. but if we have it here we should call it "Hipsters and Humidity" or "Tacos and Temperature Spikes" or something. :)
also I've got weddings and babies due in the friends and family sector during the July month. I'd be as helpful as I could if it ended up here but it would really all depend on dates. Not that things depend on me. I know there's several Austinites :)

ps. i'd be really tempted to drop everything to go to Brisbane!

If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

Yeah, I'm all for Brisbane, but I've gotten the feeling from past SF!L's that a significant number of folks wouldn't be able to justify the expense of something like that.

So how should we proceed? A poll? Or just whoever books venue(s) first wins? :P

Those are both really awesome names.

I'd love to do Brisbane, but I'm flat effing broke (especially after surgery). And even when I'm more moneyed, there will (I presume) always be at least one or two Songfighters who'd be able to afford a domestic trip but not one to Australia.

I've already got a short list of venues—one of which is owned by my wife's boss, so we can absolutely get it pretty much any weekend we want—and I can house at least two people. I'm especially interested in helping out because I've been less able to participate musically, lately. Tag me in, guys!

To tell the truth - that would be the only reason anyone would want to go to Brisbane I think

It is a nice place to live, but you wouldn't want to visit there

Maybe the Gold Coast would be a much better option if SongfightDownunder ever really happened

Anyway - I've already arranged a boys trip to Melbourne this year to see the British Lions play The Wallabies - so a second leave pass may be a bit much this year (though my wife did just spend two weeks in Vienna for a conference).

I will wait and hope for a west coast venue next year. I have enough Frequent Flier points for a quick weekend trip to LA

I second the New England idea. Any of y'all ever been to Providence? Awesome local music scene, plenty of small clubs/art houses/etc this thing could be set up in.

I'd love a New England SF. I love the area. Wherever it is, within the continental states, I'll be there. I lean towards Atlanta for the sole reason that I've never spent any time there, but Austin is awesome too.

Are you volunteering to run it? Have you ever run a live show before?

That's the main issue with any SFL - there's logistics involved, and at a minimum they're a lot more difficult than the logistics in just setting up a single-band gig.
