Song Fight Live 2013 Checklist

Post by JonPorobil »

Hey everyone! Song Fight Live: Weird & Wired is going to take place this August 9-10, at Kick Butt Coffee here in Austin Texas!!!

Here's a list of stuff that still needs to be done to ensure a successful Song Fight Live:

1.) A roster. Even a tenative one. If you think you can make it down for the show, let me know!

2.) An equipment list. Everyone let me know what you can bring, especially the locals!

3.) A name. Bats & Beats? Hipsters & Humidity? Hippies & Hipsters? Bars & Guitars? Song Fight Live: Weird and Wired.

4.) A poster. (This will be contingent upon #1 and #3.) Anyone here good with art who might want to make some publicity for us? Got one.

5.) A practice space. I know of a good one, but it's a huge schlep from the venue, so it's not ideal. Geoff WreckdoM is working on getting something closer to the venue. Any other suggestions welcome. People who can practice without drums are welcome to use my house to do so.

6.) A website with information, dates, logistics, etc. Spud?

7.) Speaking of logistics, I need to compile a list of local hotels, public transit information, and tourism options.

Hey folks, especially folks who have run one of these before, am I forgetting anything so far?

EQUIPMENT

Kick Butt Coffee will supply:
Up to four microphone stands
Various microphones (I'll ask how many they have and what types)
A mixing board and a professional to man it
A full PA system

Jon can bring:
One acoustic guitar, one acoustic/electric, one beat-up old Squier stratocaster
One Memphis Red bass (sold to me by Paco del Stinko)
One mandolin
One ukulele
One eggshaker
Tambourine
A whole bunch of diatonic harmonicas in just about every key
One chromatic harmonica
One banjo
One accordion
One Casio CTK keyboard
One Yamaha MM6 keyboard
One Korg X5D with some busted keys
One Roland P101 digital piano. Full 88 keys, weighted, real sound.

I can provide specifications and photos of any of the items on my list if needed.

WreckdoM will provide...
A drum kit:
Pearl Export 5 piece w/"Chad Smith" signature snare drum. 20" Sabian ride, 14" Zildjian "Z" hi-hats, 18" Zildjian crash, 18" Sabian crash/ride, 16" Zildjian china, 10" Meinl splash, DW double pedal, all cymbal stands are straight, no booms w/ the exception of a "claw" mount splash stand, yamaha hi-hat stand and very comfy pearl throne.
Bass amp
Keyboard amp
Guitar amp

Future Boy will provide...
Rhodes Stage Piano: http://legacy.fenderrhodes.com/img/mode ... tage73.jpg (Saturday only)

Things we don't have yet but will need:
A full drum kit
At least a couple of amplifiers
Probably some better guitars than what I own

Hey EVERYONE!
If you or your band will be playing a set, and you think you might need something that isn't listed above, speak up! I intend to accommodate every request no matter how big or how small, but the sooner you let me know of something you need, the better the odds I'll be able to come through.

Weird and Weirder reminded we are getting the Google. We could do Weird and Wired? Tacos and Technology? Fiber and Fajitas? I thought of several more. They got pretty crazy. :)

My wife has just come up with the name that is my new favorite.
Bearing in mind that our venue is martial-arts themed...
The one to beat is "Kicks & Licks."

What do you guys think? Can anyone top that?

Bump.

Does anyone have an opinion on the name?
Anyone else know whether they can make it down for the show?
Can anyone think of anything I've so far failed to consider?
Let's keep talking!

"Keep Austin Wired"

(I know it goes against the traditional "X & Y" naming convention. But somebody might want to consider the name if they are planning on opening a coffeeshop??)

You're not the first person to suggest that...
I don't think I wanna break this particular tradition just yet.

Yeah, it'd be a great business name. :-)

Dang, that one's pretty good. Hmm.

Just so you guys know, if I don't hear a general consensus by the time we need a poster, I'm just gonna pick one.

I think that sounds like a pretty strong swell of support! So it shall be:

Song Fight Live: Weird & Wired!

Once I get a firmer head-count, I'll start working on getting a poster with some band names listed.

Spud and/or JB: What needs to happen to get a dedicated page for this event like the one here: http://www.songfight.org/sf12/news.php

I've created a custom map on Google Maps with my house, the venue, the airport, some options for entertainment, etc. I plan to add some hotels and bus stops, too.

https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit? ... BI5zTQtAbs

Also, here's some info on Public Transit. http://www.capmetro.org/fares/ If I'm understanding correctly (and locals, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), a $2 pass will let you ride the bus as many times as you need for 24 hours, whereas a $5.50 pass would let you ride the bus and/or Metrorail as many times as you need for 24 hours. You can also get 7-day version of the same for $9 and $20, respectively.
