Memories from Song Fight Live Weird & Wired
Some of my fondest memories from this event. Feel free to share your own, for posterity.
Getting drunk with DJ Ranger Den and InevitableGuy on South Congress. Attempting my "drunken" kung fu form while actually drunk in the middle of Doc's bar, five minutes before they closed.
Getting a text from Ken asking me to tell Mike to move out of the way so he could see the rehearsals better.
Sober's miraculously awesome impressions of Johnny Cash and Tennessee Ernie Ford.
The funky fresh basslines that Sam made up for my songs. Thanks, Sam!
A huge crowd of people chanting, call-and-response style: "Wreck!" "Dom!" Wreck!" "Dom!"
Our epic five-and-a-half hour practice for the albumfight set.
Being among the first to hear some of the songs from the new albumfight. (Me: "I've never heard that one before; it's really good." John: "Yeah, only... [quickly counts the number of people in the room] ...five people have heard that now.")
Leah constantly checking on me to find out how many songs were left so that she and Dorie could spring the birthday cake out at just the right moment.
Getting to perform "Shreds" with some of my favorite Songfighters while Ken watched on the live stream!
"Hey guys, you know that thing...?"
Jeff, rocking out an insanely catchy live fight entry without even bothering to tune the guitar. (Seriously, man, that's still stuck in my head).
Future Boy's face when he won the live fight.
Having my house filled with Songfighters and their significant others for brunch on Sunday morning. And introducing you all to Max and Simon. And making waaaay too much food for everyone.
Geoff: "Oh, man, those were ghost peppers?"

Re: Memories from Song Fight Live Weird & Wired
Things I learned.
* Niveous sings with a ton of emotion and works for homeland security, fighting to deport bad people.
* Wreckdom is a real band that can bring the house down, and Geoff is a mild-mannered animal control agent.
* Geoff sounds like he does in his songs.
* JB does a great "Bad Romance" cover at karaoke.
* Everyone gets up way too damn early.
* Saying "Journey is like the 9/11 of music" isn't the best way to make friends.
* Denise is a crazy good drummer and knows how to work the audience.
* Marcus is actually a pretty cool dude with funny songs (when not making dolphin mating noises into the microphone).
* Roymond has a scrap book with letters from all the presidents.
* Erin is related to Wreckdom's drummer.
* Jon Eric has degus.
* Every food in the south has a "with hot peppers" option, including peanut butter.
* There is a "poop pond" in Afghanistan.
* People think a pound of cheese is a lot to eat in four days.
* When people say "Corona" they definitely do not mean "Corona Light"
* It is okay to use all of the house bandwidth to upload to YouTube in a timely fashion.
* Driving to Texas is a lot more intensive than I thought it would be.

If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

I was grocery shopping with Leah and Erin and they couldn't believe that I was buying ~1.5lbs of cheddar - particularly since it was a gourmet store with a thousand types of cheeses.Generic wrote:Who are these people?Manhattan Glutton wrote: * People think a pound of cheese is a lot to eat in four days.
I finished it off in the first few hours of my drive back from Austin.

Well done Jon Eric. It makes me happy to see this tradition kept alive.

My happiest memories from this year's event:
- Being on stage with Niveous and looking over at him just in time to see him beaming with the joy of performance
- Tequila Lime Hot Sauce (we found the store and bought some)
- I'm seconding Jon's memory of Jon doing drunken kung fu form
- Learning that DJ Ranger Den can rock the shit out of the drums
- Listening to every Austinite tell me that you get used to the heat. I call BS.
- $3 Imperial IPAs at the venue
- Sharing the stage with a bunch of insanely talented musicians - you all rock my world!

Re: Memories from Song Fight Live Weird & Wired
I can't believe a week has passed already!
I think SF:W&W was great. I have so many great memories of the weekend that it feels like a phantasmagoria in my head and if I start listing stuff either: 1- I'll be here all day or 2- I'll leave something off and feel bad about it later. It was a wonderful experience seeing you all again as well as meeting some of you for the first time. I also wanna give a shout out to the SOSF's (The Significant Others of Songfight). It was cool to see so many of them come to be supportive of their Songfighters (and they were pretty nice people too). Jill (my fiance) wishes she could've come but she was knee deep in wedding stuff (Bridal shower is tomorrow), but thanks to the wonders of technology she got to watch the show online and really enjoyed it.
We should do these more often. If anyone's up for a concert in the winter wonderland of NYC, I'll be more than happy to organize it. Songfight concerts are great fun and I can't wait for the next one.
