Song Fight! Live 2014 Date Selection

Song Fight! Live will be held at a venue in Washington, D.C. this year. This poll is to get a general sense of the best timing for the event. The weekend with the most votes will not necessarily be the final choice, but will heavily weigh into the decision.

(My availability, Venue availability, and other issues also are involved, of course.)

Please vote! You can change your vote as often as necessary to reflect changing circumstances.

Ok, July 18-20 is OUT from lack of interest. Removing from the poll!

Let's go everybody, hup hup, insert opinion here.

So, how are we going here?

The earlier a date select - the better chance of me getting a decent flight

I have every faith that JB is working hard to get us a venue and a date. But I've also been fighting the urge to make a post like this.

Can't remember if I voted for August 29,30,31 - but I would prefer not that date if possible.
My daughter is in a school production of The Aristocats.

It will not be August 29, 30, 31.

Narrowing down!

I first misread that as "The Aristocrats" and I had to wonder just what kind of school that is.

Ok everyone, decision time:

I have a great venue available Aug 8/9. That wasn't a highly voted weekend, but considering the diff is 3 votes, let's see who is in or out.

Speak up here in the comments if you will come, or not, if I book it on that weekend.

You should come. It's going to be SO MUCH fun.

I did not vote for that weekend but I believe I am fine with it. I probably ruled it out because of oncall duties at work but my oncall schedule is changing and/or disappearing soon.

Looks ok for me I will check for Frequent Flier seats

edit
---------------------------

All looks good. But so do the other weeks on option - so I'm easy.

Funnily enough - it looks like it is going to be considerably cheaper to go to NY than direct to DC.
I am starting to think that it may be quite an adventure to take an extra day or so and grab a car and drive down - hit the back roads and look around a bit.

I don't like driving at the best of times, and try to avoid it as much as possible - especially in countries where they drive on the wrong side of the road. I have only done it once before - in the French Pacific colony of New Caledonia - where I was pretty much only driving on one-lane roads anyway. I suspect that the NY/DC road probably has at least 2 lanes. One for each direction!

Did you have a crack at left-hand driving in NZ, JB?

Yah, we did a lot of driving actually, around the north island. From the Auckland airport up to Devonport, from Devonport down to Rotorua, from Rotorua over to Matamata, from Matamata over to Waitomo (with a stop in Whatawhata), from Waitomo up to Karekare, then back over to the airport.

We got used to driving on the left, somewhat, though we had to always be aware. The harder part was spacial judgement-- leaving enough space on the right or left. We both constantly over-corrected towards the shoulder, so whoever was in the passenger seat felt like they were in constant peril.

But we had no incidents, and had a great time driving all around the island. (We did not drive from Wellington to Auckland, we flew.)

Fair enough - if you can drive in Auckland, I reckon I can handle NYC.

Anyway - for all of the weeks proposed - I can get to NYC and home again for about $500. Sounds good to me. Lets do it. Lock in a date JB.

JB, I know how hard it can be finding some place that fits all of our diverse criteria, but we're also trying to plan our lives around this thing. I'm going to be staying with some family in the DC area and visiting with them in the week before or after the concert (assuming I can go at all), and they'll need to know when to be available for me. I need to request the vacation days from work. We all need to buy plane tickets or arrange other transportation. I suspect that other people who are considering going might have similar arrangements to worry about. The less time we have to plan, the more difficult all of these arrangements become.

Depending on what weekend you settle on and how long it takes, we're currently looking at 8-11 weeks of advance notice. Therefore I ask of you: please confirm a weekend as soon as possible.
