Fred Friendly seminars

Post by mico saudad »

There were a couple people who were interested when I posted about the Ethics in America series where they gather political heavyweights together and force them to confront a hypothetical situation...

6 more episodes of that have now been made using more recent figures and are about to be released. Look for several sitting Supreme Court justices, current and former members of congress, etc.

Furthermore, the 'Fred Friendly' seminar is apparently the overall term for that type of forum, and many many other such seminars have been held over the years since the original Fred Friendly developed the idea (who was the same guy who produced Edward R Murrow's show back in the 50s).

"When Fred Friendly retired from the series in 1992 at the age of 76, he repeated on air the familiar words that defined the purpose of these seminars as he saw it: "not to make up anybody's mind, but to open minds and to make the agony of decision making so intense that you can escape only by thinking."
