Update to my wildlife story from last week: the finder posted pictures of the exact owl I was taking care of and oh gosh I love it so much. The other volunteer on my shift yesterday got to hold it for its meds and I was intensely jealous because I ended up having to handle a couple of adult squirrels instead, and they are cute and all but they are like HORRIBLE DEMONS (one of them has bitten 4 people through heavy leather gloves already... but both of them are extremely energetic, fast, squirmy, and aggressive.) Which is great for the squirrels, in the grand scheme of things, but kind of sucks for anyone trying to grab them without getting bitten.

I had a job interview yesterday. It went pretty well!

Also, my dad sent me Christmas presents in un-labeled amazon boxes. I now know that I have 3 tom heads and a snare head waiting for me. But I can't open it because Krampus will beat me up if I start playing with my gift before my kids get to open theirs. Oh well, it's been 14 years since I replaced them, what harm does another two weeks make?

It’s approaching 50C and everything is burning.

Don’t know what the F is - but it’s 3 figures.

I'm trying to get into the hang of doing the F/C conversions in my head. F = 9/5 * C + 32 so 50C = 122F. Holy moly, that is extremely hot! :( Are you OK?

Is this article still relevant?

Not sure about that particular fire, but a lot of places are still burning. Sydney is blanketed in dangerous levels of smoke.

We got a bit of rain last week which put the fires around Toowoomba out. But temps are back over 40 again today. That is pretty unusual for us on top of the range. It is over 40 down in Ipswich and even Brisbane is about 40. Not normal. Here in Qld we usually have wet summers and avoid the scorching heat common in Sydney Melbourne Adelaide etc. Sydney is still a tinder box and mid 40 temps are hitting SA tomorrow. This will be a hellish summer.

That could be a thing. Koala populations are generally classified as “vulnerable” in most areas - mainly due to urban development. These fires are now smashing their habitat unlike anything before. We may soon see downgrading of their status to endangered. Maybe that could be the catalyst to stop the Australian public voting for morons

SNOW! A couple of inches yesterday and a nice, calm evening has turned into more snow this morning. My little 4 wheel drive truck made it here with no problem, but so far 8 call outs. Gonna be one long days. Doesn't help that I'm scheduled 10 hours today, too. *sigh*

If someone named Pigfarmer didn't drive a truck, I'd be incredibly surprised! No snow here, we're just expecting a bunch of rain and then dryness for a few days.

Everyone else's weather seems more interesting. Or hazardous. Both, I suppose

I was on the motorcycle last Thursday and Friday. Around freezing in the morning but warming up nicely in the afternoon. I've put on a whole lot more miles on the bike than on the truck these past couple of years. But winter comes and... well, I'm crazy but not (too) stupid.

it's been a very damp, dreary 40ºF (4ºC) here in Seattle. I could use an excuse to travel elsewhere.

Yesterday was the hottest day ever recorded in Australia. Average maximum of 40.9 across the entire continent.
