Inspired by Paco's mention of fried cheeseburgers...while I hate most fried food, and all commercially prepared crap like KFC, etc. there are foods that awesomely emerge from the fat.

Fried Ice Cream - can be a real treat when done right.
Fried Candy Bars - I've never had one but the word on the street is it's quite intense in a good way.
A good Tempura is mighty fine, but most attempts usually miss owing to being too greasy.
Fried Green Tomatoes - down in Louisiana I've experienced wonderful slices of the fruit.

I suppose the perfect balance between the appropriate oil, heat and the food itself is what makes something uplifting or literally down putting.

QofD:
What fried food turns you on? Or...what's the weirdest you've actually eated?

Played a bunch of shows this weekend, and I'm pretty tired today. Working, and going to bed. Well, maybe playing some World of Warcraft too.

Here is some video of one of the late night jams at Saturday's party.

QotD: All of it turns me on. The Sunset Grill in Campton has particularly good fried ravioli.

Can someone confirm that http://www.myspace.com is up? (if so, then we must have just started blocking it FOR SOME REASON...IE maybe we got caught spending too much time there at work)

EDIT: NM, we are. Hmmm. I wonder why.

qotd: all fried food makes me nauseous, so there's no incentive for me to eat it unless I'm attempting to be bulemic.

I don't eat fried food much, actually, and a deep fried hamburger sounds like it might kill you before it's finished. But I love fried clams, with the onion rings and colesaw on the side, as a rare treat. I had a steakbomb when I was young and I think it's still in my veins.

Hey everyone,

I feel like I haven't been around much. I have been feeling very stressed out lately and the mix of stress and depression can kind of leave me in a stupor. It's no fun. For a while now I've been "in the midst of an existential crisis" and I can't seem to find the way to just sit back and relax. I can do activities I enjoy but like I said, I won't come out of it relaxed. I keep stressing about the future and where my life is currently.

If you know me personally then you know I live a very different life than most folks. It's a hard choice to make living this way and I wonder if I can keep it all together in the face of all the mental trials and the societal stigmas. Add on my job to my stresses lately. Working as a fed may sound interesting (because it is at times) but its hard and it takes a lot of you. The other day, I got the letter from a small child saying that they miss their dad and want them back home. I must be a myrmidon about that kind of stuff. Add in the lengthy travel, it may be good for writing my novel but bad for keeping sane, and I'm getting worn out.

Then there's my best friend . A week ago, we were supposed to hang out one night. One of the reasons was to discuss a bad relationship she's in. That night, she calls me up saying she was sick and then cancelled, but said she would see me the next day at a barbecue at my house. She never showed at the barbecue. And I haven't heard from her at all in the whole week. The whole family is a bit worried. She & I had met when we were both hospitalized at the same time for depression related things. Can you see where my mind is going on this one...because I struggle with even writing down what I'm fearing right now.

All that hits and it starts to snowball in my life. I have been wanting to do music and work on other projects and I can't seem to kick myself into gear. What do the people around here do when they feel like life is weighing down on them?

Trim it down to the basics, especially things that are positive and provide meaningful feedback. Also, target the biggest offender on my long list of downers and try to knock it off the list, since I have a hard time juggling multiple such items.

Sorry to hear that you are depressed and stressed Niv, I wish I could pull that out of you and into me. I've become very good at dealing with these issues. Sometimes I feel like John Coffee from the Green Mile, except I don't exhale flies, but rather smoke from my last bong rip.
Niveous wrote:What do the people around here do when they feel like life is weighing down on them?
Not to make light of it, but that's why God invented drugs and alcohol. :P
I'm not a religious man, but I'm a firm believer in the holy spirits. I stay away from unnatural chemicals and pharmaceuticals, because they are very addicting.

EDIT:
...or what Roymond just said.
But seriously, that's part of my theraputic advice. Keep your mind and body busy with more enjoyable hobbies. Make really cool bird houses, create a really awesome recipe, learn to play the accordion, etc. Try something different from your norm.
I created a BBQ sauce that has been in the works for about a year that required many BBQs at my house with many taste testers to come to my final design. *secret slip* one of the 17 ingredients is Belgium chocolate.

qotd2: Drink heavily, but sometimes that backfires harshly. Alt: Go to strip club when funds allow. Works great. Every time.

qotd1: Atkin's Park in Atlanta used to have these huge puffy beer battered chicken fingers that were delicious. (they're not the same anymore)

Taco Mac wings. (also in Atlanta) However, the last time I had them they burnt and I was too hungover to enjoy them very much anyways.

Exercise, specifically walking an hour before getting ready for work.

This is so true. I don't care much for walking. But I take my dogs for a run quite often, mountain biking, surf, etc. Physical activity cleanses me mentally and physically. I jokingly say I surf to recharge my batteries, but it's a very true statement. Not only physical, but the whole man and nature thing completely rebuilds my inner strength and self assuredness. I notice that physical activities that make my heart race, breath heavy and perspire, result in my ability to relax and be more creative. I don't know if I'll ever be mentally normal, but I know that I can take on each day head on with comfort and confidence.

QOTD:
I love anything fried, it's one of my weaknesses. My in laws are from the South, so this just added to my addiction. But I do have control and only fry in high heated peanut oil (around 450 degrees, then reduce to 375 on things that need to cook longer). I know that's just a little less saturated fat, but I refuse to not eat what I want and like. So every little bit helps in the long run. A deep fried turkey on a Sunday can go towards two or three meals through the week, IE: Stir fry, enchiladas, chili, etc.
But quite simply, I love fried chicken.

If you just want to get away from it for a while, I find video games can be greatly immersive, but you totally don't want to do that in the long run.

Bill, that would put me in the same funk. You're sitting there being unproductive and in the end, feel more agitated than when you started. Of course, that's just speaking from my point of view.

Thanks everyone.

It's just one of those times where you have a dark cloud over you. Eventually, the skies do clear and I just have to be strong and patient. I don't drink or drug and I try to get walks in when I can. Gaming, I enjoy greatly (I've been playing a lot of Big Brain Academy and Marvel Ultimate Alliance lately) and I love a lot of brain games (like crosswords and trivia). All that stuff does help. But all in all, I keep feeling unable to relax. Eventually, I'll be through this stupor and I'll be making more music and painting and doing all the good stuff again. Just right now I feel like life has a dimmer switch.

qotd1: Pretty much any fried dish from the continent of Asia. They know how to fry food. Pad Thai is the best.
qotd2: Niveous, I just make sure that I'm not alone. I do things with friends. I also like what Roymond said.

Sigh. I wish I could hang out with my friends more. I have the chronic problem of friends who flake. Plans fall through way too often.
