Erin is out, and I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge this year solo. But this is still exciting! I may toss together some crap for a round zero entry just in case inspiration strikes, who knows.
Would you mind if I reformatted the thread title to match the format of all the previous rounds' titles? (e.g. Nur Ein XIV Round Zero "Message Received")
I forgot ‘American Woman’ had spelling in it, and researched to find it was literally written on stage as they were changing out a string. Lyrics improvised. The only way they remembered it was someone in the audience had bootlegged the concert, and they got his tape to write down the lyrics.
The whole thing was like a Canadian movie script. Guy tunes guitar and finds a riff and keeps playing it on stage so he won’t forget. Rest of band slowly join in from break and add to the groove. Then they yell at the vocalist to get up and sing something, and the first thing that comes to his head is ‘American Woman. Stay away from me’.
The whole song is essentially a Wayne Brady skit.

This is probably my favourite. Unless I'm forgetting any that are even better.

Does this one count?
Probably this is the greatest spelling song though.

My actual favorite though is Patti Smith's "Gloria"
and I am also very fond of Warpaint's "Billie Holiday"
