This morning I put all the songs in a playlist and have been shifting them around throughout the day with each passing listen. I am sure there would be more movement given more listening time, but here is my current lineup with some quick comments. Overall, things are pretty strong; I would much rather sit through a set of Nur Ein songs than an equally sized standard SongFight! title.
1. The Bovine Recyclery - consistently incredible and fun sounding songs
2. Merisan - wonderfully tasteful and balanced sound with great vocals
3. Frankie Big Face - awesome vocal work, very classic sounding
4. Puce - great buildup in the chorus, love the falsetto and lyrics
5. Thank Glenny for the Frisbee - liked the accompaniment and high vocal sound, and the mandolin is nice touch
6. Paco Del Stinko - great sounding guitars and animated vocal work and range, love that "sister cocaine had a nasty habit" line
7. Bryan Kandel - great sound, stepped things up nicely for this round
8. Jim Tyrrell - nice change up with the electric guitars, fun lyrics
9. Ross Durand - lovely acoustic sound if maybe a little too folky, alliteration stands out in a fun way, quite enjoyable all around
10. Billy's Little Trip - great sounding mix, arrangement and instrumentation keeps things interesting
11. WreckdoM - a sonic blast at this point in the mix, that Wreckdom style of energy sits well here
12. Abominominous - the mellower sound of this has been growing on me, but I am looking forward to the guitar assault next round (challenge permitting)
13. Balance Regained/Balance Lost - like the sound and vocals, nothing quite grabs me, but it still sounds good
14. Calfborg - another song that has been growing on me, not so much a fan of the vocal approach, but the synth work pulls it together nicely
15. Rabid Garfunkel - "Queasy Listening" says it all, as usual great blend of oddness and laid-back edginess
16. Cynthia Size and the @eclectic sp00ns - interesting sound and not that bad, but the electronic style keeps me at a distance
17. Tex Beaumont and the Dirty Hearts - fun lyrics the first time through, but the gimmick of the alliterative coupled words eventually wore too thin
18. Mr. Lostman - generally pleasant, but nothing that grabbed me enough to push it up the list
19. Steve Durand - nice horns and good sound, but it is the style on this one that detracts for me
20. The BeWells - taking a cue from Tex, I will put myself in that last safe spot even if I like it a little more than that; incidentally this was the first time I recorded and used real drums on a song
21. Ice 9 - the lyrics are good, but the music and sound doesn't work for me, the backing ambient effects in particular are distracting; would like to hear this song done at a much faster tempo
22. Jolly Roger - like the intent with the heavier sound, but it all feels a little undercooked to me, especially the vocals
23. Marcus Kellis - the alliterative parts like "Unique New York" are fun the first time, generally a little too repetitive
24. Sausage Boy - this is too raw sounding for me with nothing stylistically that hooks me into the song
well, the last nealy 48 hours has been pretty busy - I've enjoyed listening to the songs but didn't have the time to sort out a ranking. Some that I think would be in my top five this week are (in no particular order):
Paco
Merisan
Bovine Recyclerey (or however you spell it)
Frankie Big Face
