Nur Ein II Round One "Sister Cocaine"

Post by Lunkhead »

Hopefully it's OK for me to start a new thread for this first round. The main Nur Ein II thread has gotten pretty huge.

Anyway, I've only listed to the Abom. song so far, but I just wanted to say I really like that song. I nominate Phil as the Mike Patton of SongFight!

Once again, an AWESOME set of songs. I gave them all the once over and I'm down loading them to my ipod in a minute.
Some excellent guitar work in some of these songs! I'm honestly blown away.

Wow! People are really stepping up. I don't envy the judges this round, there are going to be some tough decisions to make. There is some enviable musicianship at hand.
It's on.

Once again, Bovine Recyclery blows me away. I wish I could go back and play that song to my 14 yr old self. I can't even understand the lyrics yet but I know that once I do the fun will ensue.

I'm liking the BL/BR direction of TGFTF's entry this time too :D

The BeWells song wasn't working for me in Windows Media Player. :(

EDIT: Ditto for Wreckdom.

EDIT 2: Both songs work for me now. It may have just been some transient networking problem. Sorry for the false alarms.

I like Calfborg (a lot!) and Cynthia Size and the @eclectic sp00ns so far, but I'm only like a third of the way through them.

Can you tell if it is a problem accessing the file or if it is something with the file itself? To save time this week and last I exported the mp3 straight from Logic Express using its default mp3 encoder. If it might help I can always go back and use something like LAME to convert to mp3.

EDIT: Good to know things are generally working now. That server I am using physically resides somewhere on the east coast, so it isn't exactly local to us here in the bay area.

I bounce that way from Logic Express each week and it appears to have not been a problem in the past.

I'm love'n Frankie's tune. Nice classic rock sound and a sweet guitar solo.

Marisan is rock'n too. Love the guitar sound and the awesome old school solo. Very cute vocals.

Paco is rock'n that six string. Always such a happy melody from the Stink.

Ross has some bad ass pick'n and grin'n going on. Great guitar work.

Also, the Bwells with some awesome guitar work and a cool old classic rock'n sound.

Spoon, of course, is my favorite electronica composer. Great sound.

I'm still listening to them all, but so many great songs this week. I really want to give them all equal listen time.

Are there going to be 5 cuts or 4 this round?

I would think 4 since an auto-disqualification seems like it would count as a cut. But what do I know?

I was actually just posting to say this is my favorite song of yours I've heard so far Mr. Kellis.

Man. I love Frankie's voice in this song. Sooooo cool! 8)

EDIT: I just looked up and down the list of the competition. This is like a collection of my favorite songfighters - all waiting to own me. Hopefully my massive use of alliteration can keep me in till next round. I made it past round 1 last Nur Ein with some horrible songs, so hopefully I can pull it off this time.

it seems like the bovine recyclery has been getting a lot of attention...i dont know what the big deal is, just because a song is brilliantly constructed, with excellent lyrics, top notch music, great vocals perfectly excecuted.....what was i saying?
great song!!

merisan, you are soundin' kind of tweeeee

puce! so good again.

frankie your song sounds like rush. and jefferson starship. or something. I guess it's appropriate for the title.

bovine recyclery's good but not amazingly super awesome. sorry to be contrary, Plat.

more later!

That's the nicest negative review ever.

Lot's of good stuff. My top five:
- Ross Durrand, for grabbing the challenge by the balls and writing a great song.
- Merisan, for the perfect vocals and melody.
- Bovine, for the crazy effects and the hook.
- BK, whoever you are, for reminding me of Beer by Reel Big Fish.
- Jim Tyrrell, for catching me off guard.

This is how I'm seeing them so far. In order - my 20 for next week would be:

1. paco del stinko
2. ross durand
3. bl/br
4. bovine recyclery
5. puce
6. wreckdom
7. bryan kandel
8. blt
9. mr lostman
10. jim tyrrell
11. spoons
12. mersian
13. tg4tf
14. rabid garfunkle
15. frankie big face
16. bewells
17. abominominominous
18. steve durand
19. calfborg
20. TB&TDH

...the others

sausage boy - I loved your song last week - but this one is a little too grating. And I have no idea what you are talking about

marcus - I like that you have put a lot more thought and effort into your arrangement. I don't like the song. Last weeks song with this weeks arrangement would be a winner.

jr - Sorry JR - this one is just not doing anything for me

ice 9 - As I said earlier, I loved these lyrics - but was disappointed that the music sounded so serious. I was hoping for a novelty song - maybe something like The Wombles, or maybe the Benny Hill Theme
