Whoa. How the hell did this happen?
I think I have a ridiculous idea for this one.

Given there are 9 circles of Hell
I expect a song cycle
Make it a good one!
BTW congrats Ben! I am excited to hear what you come up with, and excited to compete with it!
You are by far the most difficult opponent to be up against. The other guys were all awesome, but I knew somewhat what to expect from them.
I have an album of yours, I keep your songs, I've transcribed your masterpiece and played it with you. Yet, I don't know what to expect from you.
We have a lot of ammo and we intend to use it against you my friend.
See you in Hell!

Re: Nur Ein V: Final Round
You've got my life working in your favor: I'm performing with another act at Webster Hall tonight, and then my family flies in for the weekend. I'm left with Thursday 6pm onward, Sunday afternoon, and my A game. Yikes. But I'd like to think I'm a formidable opponent, even with such limitations. This is going to be a lot of fun!

Oh man, if you can come you really, really should. $5 to get in. I play Commander Terminus and my Korg playing is all over it. It's going to be awesome. If you come before 9:30 to see Mike Myers, it's $20. We're better than him.Niveous wrote:The cool thing Ben is doing tonight:

Haha. I was just kidding, but thanks for clarifying. You don't have to convince me--I've been your biggest supporter out in Judgeland. But now you have to convince all those people who've been posting reviews with you at the bottom!BenKrieger wrote:I didn't say they're working against a win. Just a song cycle.

Can we have plurality voting on this one, like the regular SongFight? That way, everyone's a winner! \o/

My voice is shot. Glenny, I figured you are throwing everything at me, so I decided to go the opposite direction, especially given time constraints. There's a little multi-level joke at the beginning, though.

It looks like the struggle for art is over, and the songs are up.

I guess you won't need this cover art I just hacked together, then.

Re: Nur Ein V: Final Round
Nice work Lunkhead.
Blogger is not letting me (and 1,000's of others) update my blog at the moment, but I figured I would go ahead and post my review here.
Boop Boop - And to think I, I wouldn't have voted for you in the last round...wow. I loved this song, the idea was golden, and I the lyrics & humor struck me right in the funny bone. I lean toward the more humorous type of music personally, and this was great. I did however have 1 problem with the song. When you got to the devils little vamp:
Berkeley Social Scene - I'm getting tired of saying your production is good. It's always fucking good, I almost want you to record something with a crappy mic, window open on a windy day, next to a busy street just so I can say something different. Anyways...your song is fine. Vocals, music, lyrics everything....fine. It was enjoyable, and if this was a Song Fight match you would definately get one of my votes. However, it's Nur Ein, and there can be only 1. In this case, after listening to both songs Boop Boop just stood out more. Sure I had an issue with 1 part of the song, but the rest jumped up, smacked me in the face and said, "Don't look at that, look at ME!" So really good work BSS, but I think Boop Boop just aced your King of clubs.

I had A LOT of trouble understanding the lyrics. Once I hit the lyrics forum, I have to admit I loved it. I shouldn't have to go look up the lyrics to understand them though. Overall great, but I'd really LOVE a do over in that one section. Well done sir.Baby, I'm burning for you
Literally and figuratively

And kill all of the indigenous people

Re: Nur Ein V: Final Round
I took a risk. I recorded that part, reversed it, then tried to learn the sound of it reversed, recorded myself speaking it in reverse, then reversed that and used it in the song. It was really hard to speak something like that in reverse, but I figured that in this case the joke was more important than the clarity. I mean, it's a song about hell...there's always something in reverse and unintelligible, right?Spintown wrote: I shouldn't have to go look up the lyrics to understand them though
On a side note, I had originally tried to flesh out the idea for a song cycle about a DJ who is sent to hell and realizes they only play disco and prog. I realized pretty quickly that I had no time to do this, but from the first idea I used the Impediments sound bite and the DJ bit for the beginning of this song.

Re: Nur Ein V: Final Round
Same here, just hit reply the easy-peasy way.
Review-wise, I haven't been doing them, because I've been in the rounds. This time, I'll give 'em, short and sweet:
BSS brought their A-game in the solid production values and excellent performances, but in my mind the songwriting itself fell short (compared to some of their other Nur Ein V entries); in particular, I was disappointed at how weakly the title line was presented.
Boop Boop brought his A-game in the lyrics and over-the-top musicianship, but I was disappointed by the awkward faux-DJ opening, which seemed tacked-on and pointless. I also wish, oh I wish, this had been sung as gospel chorus instead of 50s doo-wop.
And my vote goes to one of the two entrants.

It was definitely tacked on...I probably should have just uploaded it separately to share, but I decided to just mix it in on the front as an afterthought.

Re: Nur Ein V: Final Round
I don't know Ben. That's my favorite part. I laughed the whole way through on 1st listen, and now 10 listens in, it's the opening DJ bit that still cracks me up. The delivery is flawless. It's an awesome song! I'm wildly impressed again!
I love our song too. I have no idea what will happen. They are so apples and oranges. I think it will depend on how people listen to the 2 songs. Your song is Hilarious and well done, but ultimately a novelty song, so for me the joke wears thin on repeated listens. I think our song is one to really sink into, and gets richer and better on repeated listens.
I won't be surprised with either outcome, even another weird Nur Ein tie situation.
Good luck!
glennny
PS I tried to post Cable Beach from January, but I rendered it too damn big even for Vimeo, I'll do that again soon and smaller, so I can post the whole thing.
