Nur Ein VIII

Post by Niveous »

Spring is here (kind of), that means it's time for another edition of the Nur Ein!

Here's how it all works:

The Nur Ein is a 8 round song competition. In each round, the participants are given a song title and a mandatory challenge and are given 5 days in which to finish that song. Then this year's group of 5 Nur Ein Judges will listen to the songs and rate them from best to worst. Each round whittles down the field until we are left with only 1 competitor. Creativity x Skill x Time Management = Nur Ein!

This year's Nur Ein will start on April 17th with Round Zero. Round Zero is open to all who wish to take on the Nur Ein. The participants will have until Monday April 22rd at 12:01AM
(Eastern) to create a song from the title and complete the challenge. When a competitor completes a song, it is to be e-mailed to nurein.sidefight which is a gmail. The songs will then be posted at the Nur Ein website (http://sfbase.net/wiki/Nur_Ein). On the 22nd & 23rd, the Judges will make their decisions and then the judges will cut down the field to 25. Then the next title and challenge is announced and the cycle begins again.

Here's the schedule:

Round 0:
April 17-21
Judging April 22-23
X bands, X-25 eliminations

Round 1:
April 24-28
Judging April 29-30
25 bands, 5 eliminations
Judges favorite gets immunity

Round 2:
May 1-5
Judging May 6-7
20 bands, 4 eliminations
Judges favorite gets immunity

Round 3:
May 8-12 (the guest round!)
Judging May 13-14
16 bands, 4 eliminations
Judges favorite gets immunity

Round 4:
May 15-19
Judging May 20-21
12 bands, 4 eliminations

Round 5:
May 22-26
Judging May 27-28
8 bands, 3 eliminations

Round 6:
May 29- June 2
Judging June 3-4
5 bands, 3 eliminations

Final Round:
June 5-9
Voting June 10-11
2 bands, 1 elimination

The final round is a battle between the two remaining competitors with the votes of the eliminated competitors and the Nur Ein Jury will choosing the winner.

The game is on. Nur Ein!

I still haven't completed a recording since my hand injury, but I'll definitely at least try to get a Round 0 entry in.

It comes around again!

I'm tempted to offer my services as a judge this year, if needed or wanted. Or else I'll sign up as a competitor and inevitably go out in the 2nd or 3rd round with a rap song.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Children of all ages, I am proud to introduce to you the Judges for Nur Ein VIII.

This year's sextet is a mix of old school and new. I especially enjoy this group because they are all people I've worked with over the years. First off, returning for his third straight appearance as a Nur Ein judge Roymond. Another Nur Ein veteran judge also returns, Johnny Cashpoint. New to Songfight, Mysteria is one of my long time co-conspirators and she'll bring fresh new ears to the competition. And rounding out the group are a pair of returning Songfight alums (now the writers of the blog Valley of Steel): Eric Y. aka the Voice Inside Your Head and his wife ValleyOfSteelstress. Oh, and then there is your friendly neighborhood Niveous.

And if you are wondering what happened to Frankie Big Face?
HE'S GOING FOR THE REPEAT! Can FBF become the first ever 3 time Nur Ein champion?!?

Good idea. Each round, the competitors remove an article of clothing.

Final round - the competitors are totally nude. Just like in the ancient Olympics.

I can't even look at myself nude, so I may have to be out. I just want to say that I have nothing but respect for Frankie and his music, and that I lack most of his talents and skills. But this is a competition, right? I know that, on a good day, I can beat C-Ray's Martha And The Cornholers, or whatever they are called. But ya gotta pump up for the fight, right? NUR EIN!!!!!!!!

In your dreams Stinkhole.

But can you beat Frankie del Stinko and the Berkeley Chainsaw Massacre?

(yes - the name remains fluid until kick-off)

Did anyone notice? It is made up of the top 4 Google search terms of 2012. That has got to be good.
