Another successful Thursday, I have written and recorded the whole thing, although it took a little longer this week, especially as I wrote it and realised I had accidentally written a song called "Looking Mirror", with some lovely rhymes for mirror in it. But it has all kind of come together in the end, it kind of sounds like a mad love song being performed by synth pirates on a merry go round.

You can have a waltz in 9/8 right Roymond?

I think this 3/4 thing might do me in right off the bat :(
It's not that I can't write a song in 3/4, it's just that I find the idea so unappealing that I'm finding it hard to work on it.

Keep in mind that the whole song doesn't have to be in 3/4. And also, apparently, if you just yell, "WALTZ!!" at some point in your song, that is also acceptable.

Submitted. I knew I'd be on vacation this week without an instrument, so I recorded three loops on mandolin before I left, threw them into garage band, and recorded all vocals and sound effects in the woods behind a farm in Atlantic, Iowa using the built in mic. Had to hold the laptop and record without headphones because of ticks and a broken 1/8" jack, respectively.

Is it still considered a waltz if it's in 3/4 time and 240 bpm?

Just wonderin'.

Of course it is - but how can I get it faster than 240bpm?

I assume you are using garageband too - which only goes that high. But I would like it faster.

You can go faster that 240 with 4/4 by splitting things in half and going double time..or something..but I don't think I can do that with 3/4

Incidentally, "Chokehold Princess" is a nod to a song by Scott Miller. I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with either of his bands , Game Theory and Loud Family, but he had a huge cult following and his recent, unexpected death was enough to get mentioned in all the usual mainstream and indie publications. He was a huge influence on my songwriting, and from what a few of my acquaintances who knew him as a friend tell me, a really nice guy. Incredibly talented. Go to his site to learn more and download some of his albums for free. "Lolita Nation" is a classic double record. Highest, highest recommendation.

Also a little late reminder that there are other ways to interpret "waltz" than just "song in 3/4". After last round's 25 songs where the challenge part seemed to consist of a google search for "gunshot WAV free" or liberal overuse of the casio preset, which left me with a massive headache, I would remind people that this judge at least is very happy to welcome figurative, non-headache-inducing interpretations of the challenge, as long as it is clear from the song (not an explanation on the threads or in the lyric)

I'm not using Garageband, but I am using a combo of Digital Performer, Ardour, codeine, Xanax, anti-inflammitories, meth, bathroom tile grout and Jolt cola, so anything you can suggest to increase the tempo and get these singing bugs off my skin would be much appreciated.

A real tragedy that he died so young. "Lolita Nation" was my fave (I was lucky he autographed my CD) but there are great moments throughout all the Game Theory/Loud Family releases. He will definitely be missed...

Thank you for linking a Beatles song that I actually hate (there are a few of them; this one, "Get Back", and "Yesterday" spring to mind)
