FINALLY! I have a ton of scrap beatboxing tracks that I have been dying to use!
Oh wait... I'm still not in the competition. When will we have optional bonuses for regular fight! songs?

Song Fight does sometimes include an "Optional Challenge."johndisk0 wrote:FINALLY! I have a ton of scrap beatboxing tracks that I have been dying to use!

Barring that, you can feel free to submit a "Nein" entry!

I think that would apply to any bodily orifice of any creature living or dead that you are able to put food into.Rabid Garfunkel wrote:Clarification time #1! (If it even applies to me this round )

"Voice... as an instrument."
Does that mean the "oooohooooooohhhooooooohh" part in Radiohead's Pyramid Song (and several other stuff by Radiohead) would qualify (since Thom Yorke often referred to his voice in such songs as an "instrument", rather than traditional singing)?
What about something like Pink Floyd's Several Species...? I guess that kind of voice usage would be OK, am I right?
Would screaming and wailing like a banshee qualify as "other than vocals"?

Re: Nur Ein X - Round Four
Three of the five judges have indicated that they'd rather remain cagey about their stance on these questions. Sorry to the participants, but I'm afraid you won't be getting any useful clarification.
Here are some examples of songs you might know that meet the challenge—at least, in this judge's opinion...
The Who - "A Quick One While He's Away" (they sing "Cello" under the "You are forgiven" part)
Barenaked Ladies - "Straw Hat and Old Dirty Hank" (syncopated breathing as percussion)
Martin Sexton - "13 Step Boogie" (he imitates a muted trumpet for the solo)
Here's a really great example from the Song Fight! archives...
Eddie Bangs - "Troublemaker"

Re: Nur Ein X - Round Four
One of the judges would like to make very clear once again that he is not being or has ever been "cagey" about his "stance".Generic wrote:Three of the five judges have indicated that they'd rather remain cagey about their stance on these questions.
It's not the judge's job to tell the participants what to do, just to judge. Clue's in the job title.
Competitors, if you want someone to hold your plump little hand as you dip your sixth toe into the horrid, scary urine-filled pool that is competing in Nur Ein, I'd suggest asking your loved ones. Since I hate you all, by default and proxy, I will now be marking down everyone who asks for any kind of challenge clarification. Got a problem with that, blame Jon

Um, I guess if you want clarification and you don't want j$ to sandbag you, then maybe PM me? I'm still happy to answer questions, even though they seem to irritate the other judges.

Re: Nur Ein X - Round Four
When I was assembling the judges for this competition, I asked j$ because he's been around here for a long time, he's been a judge more times than anyone else besides Niveous, and I also figured that his personality would counterbalance my own.
It's nice to see my plans work out.

Re: Nur Ein X - Round Four
Even though I am not in the competition, I will be submitting a Nein for this because I can't get the idea out of my head. My interpretation of the requirement hasn't changed, so there will be either beatboxing or heartbeat sounds (created by glottal attacks) or both in my song. I completely agree that it is the judge's job to judge.Reist wrote:Indeed.j$ wrote:It's not the judge's job to tell the participants what to do, just to judge. Clue's in the job title.

Re: Nur Ein X - Round Four
I would suggest to my fellow judges that at least one of us takes the time to review whatever 'Nein' has to offer each round. I will kick off (whatever there's already and then whatever turns up for round 4)

Re: Nur Ein X - Round Four
Just sent mine in. Aside from traditional vocals, human voice sounds were used in the form of percussive chanting, organ-like drones, wind and ghost noises (verses 2 and 4) and screaming (verse 5).
