Re: Forget the dang Pokemon! (Turn Off Your Phone prefight)
Wrote a bit of a song yesterday and another one on the plane today shortly before crossing the date line to vanish the rest of my Wednesday and explode into Thursday evening. What shall become of these tracks I don't know. Hold my calls. . .
What- no one's called for weeks?
OK, hold the hope for a call

I'm pretty much in a with a weird, slow jam about rivers and time. Trying to decide if I should yelp "My name is dust!" at the end.

Recorded what 2013-me would have considered a complete song the other day. Gonna make some arrangement changes and rerecord it from the ground up. Feeling very Turnpike Troubadours so far.

LP for Turn Off Your Phone will be Monday 8/15 at 9 pm EDT
SpinTunes finals just happened Monday. So we'll start off fresh after my vacation at the beach!
I'm also working on using the video for a PEG access show, like I did for Nur Ein, but they frown on the swearing - so if I do edit one, I'll have to bleep any naughty bits.
YT doesn't give a fuck, so it's fine there.
Hope to see your smiling, happy faces.

Re: Forget the dang Pokemon! (Turn Off Your Phone prefight)
Tracked bass, electric, acoustic, and lead vocal last night. Comped and pocketed, though I have no idea what I'm doing with Pro Tools' elastic audio tool and have thoroughly ruined my vocal take. Need lead guitar, mandolin, bgv, and maybe fiddle. Fine tune drum programming, automate, then mix.
Working with guys who run a big boy studio has made me add a lot of steps to how I songfight. Gonna be a long night.

I was listening to art rock / prog rock as I'm prone to do. I stumbled on this gem that was way too familiar.
Did you realize Space hog sampled this?
This Penguin Cafe Orchestra album is a pretty good instrumental album.

Good god. It's past 4am, but I'm in.
Didn't get any mandolin, fiddle, or backing vocals in, but I did do hammond, and put together the most technical guitar-ing I think I've ever done. Also, in the years that I've been absent, I've completely forgotten how to mix. More likely I never knew in the first place.

Re: Forget the dang Pokemon! (Turn Off Your Phone prefight)
I tried to manipulate some midi thing on my brother's iPhone (being my first time using Garage band) and was too tired, too unable to remember lyrics for the one I was going to submit, bothered that I didn't have all four of them ready to submit and then I let pride get in the way because I began to think for the first time about trying to not make my strike rate worse (I blame the glorious Holly Furlone (5 from 7) and Howling Monkeys (4 from 4, one as Uncle Gravy Biscuits for those playing at home *what a line to use here* ) that I met at SFLive) and therefore relinquished my control over my eyelids.
Although I had partially wanted to submit a short wreck from the Garageband effort, to document my progress when I acquire my own iPhone in coming days, I was totally put off by that contribution going to be up there forever. (Hello, have I heard by Nur Ein Teeth Marks lately? The answer is yes, as I screw my nose up with disgust).
So my aim is to record all 4 Turn Off Your Phone entries, without completing any more of their songwriting, for those interested, and just share it on here somewhere.
In the meantime and since I would consider it offensive to request the inclusion of this given the time lapse, also it's incomplete, poorly mixed and not even the actual words, BUT: there's this for a giggle.

Re: Forget the dang Pokemon! (Turn Off Your Phone prefight)
Hmmmm. I only see four submissions in the fightmaster mailbox. I see BSS, Paco, The Grim, luntar. No sign of any songs from Sober or Pepper or praise muzak or whatever. If you've sent your songs in and aren't BSS, Paco, The Grim, luntar, you should probably resubmit. Dang it. :/

Re: Forget the dang Pokemon! (Turn Off Your Phone prefight)
Also got the confirmation email back. Resending now
Also: You still able to track pedal steel? I'm likely to stay in the same vein as my submission this week, and would love to have some steel in the future.

Re: Forget the dang Pokemon! (Turn Off Your Phone prefight)
Yeah, the automatic confirmation email at this point is probably more trouble than it's worth, since it gets sent even in reply to spams, which basically doubles the spam we get, because replies to spam almost always result in another email saying the reply bounced, AND it no longer really means that real submissions were actually received.
I could still try to track some steel but my schedule is pretty whacky. If you're ok with my probably flaking out I'll give it a try.

Re: Forget the dang Pokemon! (Turn Off Your Phone prefight)
So I've sent in the file for the above link, I was going to take this disruption as a chance to whip up a new version with a real guitar and the real words but instead this file, albeit pretty much just an idea, is the version recorded within about 90min of the deadline, to be fair
