Up and Upper (High and Higher prefight)

Post by Lunkhead »

High and Higher
Due: Thursday, 08/20/20 9:59am PDT
optional challenge: Write about a movie
yourbandname_hah.mp3 sent to fightmaster@songfight.org
Subject: High and Higher
Body: (your band name)

One time we had a director's name as the fight title. Those were the days! TBH though I don't love Tarantino's movies.

I'll almost certainly be in for this one -- and then plan on taking a bit of a hiatus for awhile to work on other projects. I feel compelled to enter this one cause it'll complete my arbitrary goal of going an entire year without missing a single fight. But man, this is a good title!

I have no idea what genre my work in progress falls under but you can dance to it so that's good.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it'll be a dark, heavy genre :)

I mean it does have a heavy groove, that is true. But it's got way more "math rock" and dancehall influence that I usually go for!

In for my 34th consecutive fight and 39th consecutive entry. Pointless year-straight goal achieved!

I wrote my song in 11/8. I'm trying to record the vocal right now, and, wow, it's hard to sing.

Congrats! Yeah, I wasn't sure I was gonna make it. Like sleepysilverdoor I'd like a year-long streak but with the heat beating down, the desolation and isolation of the pandemic, and a deer attacking my beautiful fig tree and just taking the piss outta my sails, I have to say, it was hard to muster the gumption. But I'm in, hot mess and all.

In the second fight I entered, I submitted a song that had bad vocal timing and was an oblique biography of someone who barely qualifies as a public figure. So basically nothing has changed between then and this fight.

Also, this song is supposed to be in Phrygian mode, so if anyone can tell me if I did it right, I'd appreciate it.

In with a song that tips the 4 minute mark
I need to reverse this trend and get back down to something nearer 3

Holy shit! Most of my song is based on a random number generator, and I was going to do an 11/8 signature thanks to that, but decided I had enough else going on so scrapped it. Looking forward to listening!

I'm in with a very short song that specifically adheres to the optional challenge, let's see who can guess what movie I am referencing, I think it should be easy to figure out if you've seen the movie.

Listening Party for 'High and Higher' will be Monday 8/24 at 9pm EDT.

Drop in and chat with the artists while we peruse these newly created classics!
And enjoy my slightly stoned face as the thumbnail when I was between radio gigs and working at a Building #19 in Haverhill MA in the late '80s.
(Taken from the documentary 'Waiting For The Laughs: The Story of The Boffo Yux Dudes' that we never released but escaped somewhere on YT years ago)

Thanks, I'm looking forward to hearing yours as well, especially after reading the lyrics.

Boffo: Have to pipe in to say that I was born and raised in Haverhill, not far from "The Building". Sorry to see that one, and all the rest of them, go. Used to go there when It was JM Fields!

Anyone else reading, care to try and pronounce Haverhill?
