In for the dead fight. It'll be evident that I got my copy of the Spitfire BBC Orchestra plugin.

In for the dead fight too, using the audio from the live fight video (recorded on my phone) with some extra layers thrown on top recorded in my DAW (2 harmony vocals and ambient whale noises courtesy of the sustainer on my Vox Starstream guitar.) I recorded video of all those too to make it more "live" but ran out of time to actually assemble something... if I get my sound problems worked out, I might be able to learn to deal with the video editor in time to put something up.

I've just spent ages troubleshooting what I thought was a problem with my Reaper export settings (every time I would export an mp3 from Reaper it would sound all slow and messed up when I played it back) but finally realized, after trying to go back to the livestream Youtube video for reference and finding it also sounded wrong on PC but normal on my phone, was probably actually a sound card driver issue with my computer causing every other application other than my DAW to go haywire. I'm crossing my fingers that the mp3 I submitted sounds normal and not like I'm on Quaaludes, but it's kind of hard for me to tell for sure at the moment. I swear everything sounds OK in Reaper, at least...

if you saw the livefight then you already heard my... not-live fight entry. hopefully that means it'll be stuck in your head and you'll be compelled to vote for it based on how catchy it is.

I fixed my dilemma by grabbing a pen and writing out my song lyrics on one of the stencils I used for my cover art.

My friend posted about a controversy around Inktober and how there were some alternatives going around. I decided to at least give #birbtober a shot this year because BIRBS.

I still have not realized the dream I had earlier this year of filling a whole notebook with drawings of that IKEA monkey in a fur coat, but maybe in November or something.

It's not too late to submit an ink variant if you'd like to.

Huh, I'd heard about the trademark part of the controversy, and to that part Jake Parker's intentions behind what he did were good but there's some larger effects I don't think he was considering, and that's what led to the other issues that made it blow up like it did.

But until now I didn't know anything about the Alphonso Dunn book issue. That's really troubling, if it's true. It's hard to tell how much of this similarity is just due to the fact that these are basic techniques which are often taught in similar ways, though.

Ugh. I didn’t know about any of this. I do love drawing birds, but I think I’ve decided to draw an octopus every day for #october instead. Maybe #octoper.

Oh by the way after reading up on it more and actually watching both Alphonso's video and a couple of analysis videos, I am pretty sure the plagiarism allegations are crap.

Oh, yeah, it definitely struck me that full on plagiarism is a bold claim. I’m more uncomfortable with someone claiming legal ownership of a community movement. I understand wanting to make income off an idea you had that took off in a way you never expected, but I think there are probably better and more sensitive ways to do that.

I think his reasoning for it was more to protect the name from being taken over by a corporation who decided to cash in on it. That said, there’s definitely better ways he could have done that.
