I regret 2 things:
Missing the optional challenge (never again!)
Not using sleigh bells (probably again)

Huh. Sleigh bells would've fit nicely into what I had going on. Ah well, it wasn't a Yule type of song at all anyhow.

I'm in, with the optional 3/4 challenge (I think, anyway), and also non-Christmassy sleigh bells, and also radioactive pianos! (When you hear this, please just know that I already cut the weird experimental bullshit down from half the song to 1/3 of the song and made it more listenable than before. I swear.)

Navel-gazey process notes:
- I think this is the first Songfight song I've recorded with my actual nice 61-key keyboard instead of the little 25-key controller I usually use. It's so much nicer to play, haha. In pre-COVID times, my keyboard usually stayed at our practice space and I was too lazy to pack it up and bring it home to use... now we are ditching our practice space and I finally brought it home and set it up, I guess that's the silver lining to not being able to play music with my bandmates for the last 9 months.
- I also recently restrung my husband's Jazzmaster he wasn't using and used it for the little bits of guitar, first song I've recorded with it. It's fun to abuse a tremolo bar.
- This was pretty atypical for me in that I started it with the melody line on the kind of detuned synth strings you hear at the very beginning, and then sat down afterwards to figure out what chords would fit behind it, and then added all the other stuff. Usually I start with a chord progression and/or vocal melody rather than an instrumental melody/hook.
- Is it just me, or is 6/8 better than 3/4?

So you wrote a Hot Pink Halo song then?owl wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 12:59 amI'm in, with the optional 3/4 challenge (I think, anyway), and also non-Christmassy sleigh bells, and also radioactive pianos! Re: Case closed! (Another Mystery Solved prefight)
If it were a proper HPH theme song I would have cleverly incorporated the radiation and sleigh bells and time signature into the lyrics somehow as a complete artistic package. Sadly, I didn’t make my song about a waltzing post-apocalyptic Santa, but I sort of feel like I should have now.crumpart wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 1:28 amSo you wrote a Hot Pink Halo song then?owl wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 12:59 amI'm in, with the optional 3/4 challenge (I think, anyway), and also non-Christmassy sleigh bells, and also radioactive pianos! Wanted to get a late entry in tonight except then we did all our Christmas Facetimes to Australia instead, so hopefully I can still get it in tomorrow.
