Re: Maybe these will be (Better Days prefight)
Hi All,
Before the pandemic and shelter in place orders, Sam and I were going to an event in Berkeley called, "Instant Band Night." It was a lot of fun for us because we got to make up songs with other local musicians. It was really low pressure, and everyone was really nice. Basically, you showed up and put your name in a can for each role in the band (vocals, guitar, bass, drums, other). Folks were randomly put together, given a few minutes to write a song, and then performed it in front of everyone else. Similarly, JB started Menage A Garage after meeting his band mates at a similar event. I thought I would try bringing this concept to Songfight. Therefore, here is how Instant Band: Song Fight Edition works:
1. Sign up on this Google form, indicating the role(s) you would be willing to play as part of a group: https://forms.gle/jsE6mc2BGyLg4hef9
2. Once the next title is posted, I will put people into groups. You will get an email with who is in the group and what their roles are.
3. You are now a band! Write and record a song together for this week's title. Work together to figure it all out (writing/mixing/submitting/etc.)
4. Come up with a band name and submit!
If this works, and people are into it, we can figure out a way to carry the info over from week to week, or I'll reset the form. Let's just see what happens this week!
Questions, comments, or answers?

Welcome back!
Also you could still participate in an instant band even if it's in a fight in which you also have a solo entry, that's not against the rules.

I’m crazy right now, but I love this idea and would love to participate in a future week. Is the form a thing that will refresh or are you just using this fight as a test run?

Re: Maybe these will be (Better Days prefight)
Definitely a trial.run, but so far seems successful and I'd be happy for it to continue. It seems like we might already have enough late comers for another group. I'll check in the morning and put another group together if it makes sense.theleahkitten wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 7:39 pmI’m crazy right now, but I love this idea and would love to participate in a future week. Re: Maybe these will be (Better Days prefight)
I wanted to participate in instant band fight but life...
That being said, I actually had a couple hours to myself today and wrote and mostly recorded a song for Better Days. Chances are pretty damn good that I'll find a bit more time to finish off an entry.

Re: Maybe these will be (Better Days prefight)
Somehow I've managed to write half a song. I'm not sure if it's good. But it has electric guitar and way too much whammy and jangle pop overtones. And the drums are on brushes because I can't use sticks with a baby strapped to me for volume reasons. :p

Re: Maybe these will be (Better Days prefight)
Dagnammit, I checked the forums too late. Just finished mixing down my entry (until I listen again and insist I have to move the fader an extra millimetre) but that collaboration looks like fun. I've always felt like I should do more of that rather than obsessing over stuff by myself.
I'd love to try this out if you do it again, I think I have joined this too late now

Re: Maybe these will be (Better Days prefight)
I don't think it's too late. Ken posted recently that more folks have signed up and there is another instant band forming, but it still needs somebody to cover the drums/percussion.

I managed to get a song in that is neither nu metal nor about Grey's Anatomy.

Re: Maybe these will be (Better Days prefight)
It's been quite a while since I did a fight, 2013 maybe? Trying to get an entry done for Better Days. I'm collabing with a friend on the other side of the globe for the first time, so the back and forth is a little slow while we work out our process. I've noticed sometimes the songfight tracks sometimes don't go up until some days after the deadline, so I'm wondering if we get our entry in before they go up if there's still a chance of being included in the fight or if the deadline is a strict cut-off time...

If the song is in (and you get an email saying they have it) before the songs go up then you're good to go. But when that happens, nobody knows.

Mine is in and it is written from the perspective of a discarded mobile phone.
